On the game itself, desktop mode is really the only good way to use this as a productivity app, but there is a bunch of missing functionality on it, so definitely not worth it. Pets have a very weird jitter that is extremely distracting and painful to the eyes. It could be cute, but it really feels barebones and empty, and is probably geared towards getting people to spend premium on new pets, without improving on anything.

They're also using midjourney to make this game so good chance is they're trying to cash grab on cozy/productivity while stealing from others.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am the speed freak who wrote the main and map themes (music) for The Last Hex.

I first heard of this game at a game expo at a local college, and met the devs there, and played through the game a bit, and instantly got addicted. I never played StS or the like, so the concept was fresh for me. Also, I'm not great at numeric ratings but people like numbers, so they're included.

Gameplay

The combat can be as complex or as simple as you want, which is the major appeal of deck building games. Each run can be totally different, or if you want to build a specific deck, you can repeat runs with the same class, and just work towards that. I had discovered an insane combo, and I spent quite a few runs trying to build it again, and wipe the lost.

Classes and equipment also make for some amazing variation in runs, and with the ability to completely customize your build. My best run had me playing a mage type, but had cards focused on the "rouge" class, that I didn't initially have any stats for.

Rating: 9/10

Art/Animation

With deckbuilding/card games, art and animation is honestly a low priority for me. As long as I can tell what I'm fighting, and read the text (which I can), it gets a pass from me.

Rating: Honestly not fussed/10

Music

Now I can't give an unbiased review for this, so I'll explain what the stuff I did does. The main theme/title theme is well, exactly what you'd expect. The map theme evolves as you get further on in the map, so for those who are sick of the map theme at the beginning, it does change and progressively gets more intense the further you get in! So I'd encourage you to stick it out and work your way up to hear some of the final iterations of the map theme, cuz I think they're pretty good.

Rating: I did stuff/10

Conclusion

I came into this game as a fan, and while I did some work for it, I'm still playing as a fan of the game. Its simple, but allows for complete autonomy, has some awesome FTL style events, and allows you to really strategize as you learn the game more. Art is quite nice, and the music was fun to work on.

Overall Rating: 8-9/10
