"Tony Hawk's Risk of Vampire Survivor Rain" was not a mash-up I was wishing for, or expecting, Megabonk proves that I wasn't thinking hard enough. Take the best parts of Vampire Survivors, Risk of Rain 2, and throw in some seriously amazing movement tech that gets towards light speed skateboarding vibes if you try hard enough. Bunny hopping with momentum preserving slides makes the old ROR2 sprint rhythm much, MUCH, more fun.

One of the best parts of Megabonk is that it's metaprogression is almost entirely based around unlocking new things. There is no crazy Rogue Legacy/Vampire Survivors stat metagrind. There are powerful stat upgrades, but it's not like grinding towards starting with +250% HP, and +30 movement speed, and 2 revives. It casually vaults past one of my least favorite things in genre and has a wonderfully Enter the Gungeon, Nuclear Throne, or Brotato style of progression.

At the time of this review my main nitpicks, and I am really trying here, are that there aren't enough levels /zones. There should be more enemies with more attack variety. Weapons & characters could be rebalanced and many tooltips could be better.

Game is freakin' incredible. The music is phenomenal. Megabonk slays the "One More Run" vibe like few others have. There is a nearly infinite amount of room for new content, updates, and refinements too.

Nightreign has vastly exceeded my expectations, though I was fairly wary about it before actually getting to hop into a game. Elden Ring + Battle Royale + Risk of Rain 2, and I have truly loved my time so far. It is absolutely not perfect, there are many things to improve, some things have already been significantly improved from launch too. I have a solid win rate queuing into trios by myself, so people are generally decent enough to enjoy the game.

This game unquestionably excels with friends in a voice chat, to the point that it will probably be a full necessity for many buyers. The game does not have built in voice chat, so anyone not in VC is only placing markers on the map. Again, I've had pretty solid success rate with randoms, and it's generally enough communication to have the smallest amount of dialogue.

There's a pretty damn big learning curve right at the start, even for souls/Elden Ring die-hards. New systems, new abilities, new base mechanics (like no fall damage), reprioritizing things you might have overlooked before, plenty of relic/run RNG, and of course tons more. The new bosses, the Nightlords, are all pretty enjoyable and challenging, not all of them are the same to me, and nobody has the same feelings about each and every one.

Most importantly, the devs need to keep the content churning. The already added in extra variants of Nightlords, now Everdark Sovereign, are currently in a weekly rotation, with the third releasing the night of this review. These have been great, but there needs to be more variety in the world mobs, night bosses, evergaeols, etc etc. There's enough variation for me, someone with hundreds of hours in RoR2, to stay happy for quite a while (this wasn't a positive for RoR2, enemy variety virtually doesn't exist).

I have been enjoying the vast majority of my time significantly more than I was expecting to. 8/10

Take an amazing game and amp it up to 11. The enemies are meaner, the loot can be so much more insane, and some of the gimmicks are so dang silly too, There is *so* much variability between runs that I can't put it down. Once again it's priced to sell. Don't skip this genre slayer and it's unnecessarily stellar OST.

This FREE game has no right to be this good. Hoard slaughter survivor with tons of love poured into it. Worth all of my $5 donation and much, much more. Support indie devs <3

2026 update: Evil Empire's development has been truly inspiring. Very fun, very fluffy and silly, while progressing things in many new cool ways. I love it, thanks for the content <3

Brotato is a perfect realization of the "survivors" or "bullet heaven" genres and it's hard to recommend it enough. Tight and fast paced arcadey action that's simple to grasp and easy to start while still reaching levels of intense difficulty on the highest settings with a harder character where the game demands that you properly optimize your tater's strange baked-in gimmick. Unlike many in the genre, Brotato elegantly sidesteps the metagame grind of permanent micro-improvements in favor of only unlocking more characters, more items/weapons that appear in runs, and higher difficulties.

Unquestionably priced to sell, there are very few full priced games on Steam that can contend with Brotato's value.

Early Access Review
Super fast paced roguelite enjoyment! Find ridiculous weapons, overcome massive hurdles, fun metaprogression that's not "do X more damage" like Rogue Legacy.
I can only describe Tiny Rogues in the most endearing terms that I can think of: it plays like a more classic RPG leaning Enter the Gungeon, which happens to be one of my favorite games of all time. Dodge gradually increasing in difficulty insane bullet hell boss patterns while trying to deal out as much damage as quickly as possible and somehow make it out alive. Massive amounts of variety that leads into a truly brutal endgame packed with tons of cool secrets!

On second thought it's probably more similar to Monolith than EtG when it comes to bullet-hell patterns. Really intense stuff.

For the love of any hypothetical god, please add short rounds back into the game. This **** is ****ing painfully long.

The scroll system in this game is easily one of the most Feels Bad rng mechanics that I have faced in any roguelite. Classic trash roguelite metaprogression techtree. I would refund if I could, but there's no way I'm getting my 13 hours back.

Jupiter Hell might have ditched the DoomRL name, but the brutal tactical roguelike combat stayed the same. ChaosForge have successfully molded one of the most classic and well revered traditional roguelikes into a proper 2021 modern flesh-machine abomination... ie it looks great, sounds fantastic, plays phenomenally well, and will simply kick your **** in at a moments notice.

Sweep your way through multiple episodes with many branching paths as you scour the unfriendly halls for loot that's good enough to actually take you to the end. Risks are generally rewarded, but one or two wrong turns can easily spell your early demise, and there's really no way to know what exactly is waiting for you around every corner. If you use cover, wait for enemies to make the first move, aim your shots, and run the hell away when you need to there is a chance you'll make it to the end.

At the time of this review I have only beaten the game once, on Easy, but it's taken me quite a few tries to get to this point. The one run I did win felt like I should been playing on a higher difficulty setting, which is rather encouraging and motivating to keep on digging deeper.

Jupiter Hell is an easy recommendation to anyone who likes traditional roguelikes, intense strategy games (X-Com), heavy as hell OSTs, or just good games in general.

Mooncrash is an incredible addition to the base Prey game, and perhaps takes my slot of favorite DLC for any game. Take all of Prey's craziness and amp it up to 11 over a randomly modified multi-character adventure. Figure out a way to beat the simulation as it gets harder and harder the more you play and unlock; There is a clock constantly ticking up, and this clock wants to kill you. You'll explore the full breadth of the upgrade and character types from the base game, with plenty of added or modified features to keep things fresh.

Most of the negative reviews on here seem wildly different from my playing experiences. So many complaints about the timer and feeling like they need to rush... I had plenty of time for the vast majority of my playtime. You have to go into Mooncrash realizing that you *WILL* not be finding everything your first run(s). There are no quicksaves, there is permadeath (for that simulation). You will have to reset unwinnable simulations. You will have to use your intelligence to strategize a way forward, sometimes using mechanics in the base Prey that you didn't use or perhaps didn't even know about. You will probably die plenty too.

The game is pretty darn straight forward: don't die and figure out how to escape. It's pretty disheartening to see so many reviews saying they refunded in a hour or two because it wasn't a straight line or that they had to use different characters or win over multiple runs? If Majora's Mask gives you a panic attack you will probably not like this. If you like challenging rogue-adjacent experiences, this is one of the best out there, even more so for roguelite first person games.
