Names carry expectations, and that brings comparisons. Yet I see a lot of people wearing rose-tinted glasses over bloodlines 1. That game got decades of fan patching to turn it into the cult classic it became. The game was borderline unplayable when it launched. Yet everyone is glassing over that convenient detail.

Honestly, the game is quite good. Outside a few performance issues (I have a mid-range PC), the game is actually fun to play without needing 10+ years of patching and modding. (I was expecting way worse from this, since it has been in development hell for so long)

Do I recommend this game? It really depends. Just like Bloodlines 1, this game isn't for everyone. If you enjoy VTM for the plot and the world building, then yeah, you're probably going to enjoy this game. The story from what I played is interesting. However, if you want a deep stat-based RPG with social checks? No, this ain't it.

But don't come into the game expecting the same quality Bloodlines 1 got with its years of fan patching / modding. The negative reviews are mostly only because of the naming.

EDIT: Grammar fixes

Hey Hey People minion here.

Seth really has a tendency of showcasing hidden gems that really fit my niche. I'm honestly ashamed I never heard of this game before. It ticks all my boxes.

As of right now, I am holding until 1.0 releases for me to properly dig my hands in this game. I hope this sudden burst of activity motivates the developer further to finish this amazing product.

Can't wait to see this finished. Take my 20€

Honestly, the game is good. Not great, but not bad like everyone and their mothers make it seem like.
The detail of the city is insane, Its literally a massive playground. And the OST blasting in your ears while you kill everyone near you Akira style is truly orgasmic.

However, this game also has flaws, these are my personal pet peeves with the game:

-Story is incomplete, its very obvious they had to cut corners mid development to fist everything in, there are still lingering plot points that you never get to explore or find out how it ends. Which is a dam shame since the writing is there and its quite good.

-The 2 major male characters you can have a relationship with are extremely shallow compared to the female options. There is a quite a gap of writing quality between the 4, with Panam being the one who got more attention by the devs and with Kerry (the only male gay option in the game) being the worst and the most ignored. I feel like Bioware games are still ahead in this department regarding LGBT characters, however, I appreciate CD Projekt RED's 1st attempt. I just wanted all 4 romances to be treated with the equal amount of care like Panam did.

-The perks are boring, 80% of the perks are just passives. Combat needs a serious revamp on the perk system. The combat we have now feels like its 2 generations behind.

-There are leftover features that clearly were meant to have a bigger presence in the game, like the purchase of a personal braindancer and the remote hacking droid thing.

Overall, I give it a recommendation but with a grain of salt, its clear the game is unfinished. And I would wait until they start launching free content upgrades, DLCs and expansions, that will hopefully expand on the story and fix the base game issues.

Old time fan of the originals, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter nights

And let me just congratulate Larian, because for the 1st time since ever, the developers bothered to try and make actual evil and neutral party members catered for people who tend to play that kinda of playstyle (Like me)
I really missed having companions applaud my evil actions in rpgs (Dragon Age has a severe lack of evil playstyles available for example). I'm glad Larian decided to get out of most other developer's comfort zone, unlike good-natured characters, evil and neutral ones are alot harder to write and get it right. I find Astarion very entertaining and I love his macabre sense of humor, I hit it off really well with him in my party.

However, the current roster of companions is way to small (only 5? What?) and the lack of banters are a huge turnoff. Those are my biggest critiques. BUT, since the game is still in early access, and only chapter 1 is available, I'm hoping they will introduce alot more companions on later chapters, to balance the current evil-neutral alignment based roster we have.

Combat? Amazing (YOU CAN JUMP AROUND!). I'm sorry but Real Time combat in the original BGs was horrible and it's terribly outdated (constant pausing and micromanaging? you might aswell make it turn based from the get go). Hated the combat at the time, still hate it today. So I'm glad they decided to go full on turn based in BG3, like the actual D&D pen and paper.

I recomend this game, it's quite good for a early access game, but keep in mind, the game is far from being polished and It's probably going to suffer alot of changes untill it reaches 1.0

This game gave me soo much anxiety in only just the 1st hours. Had a awfull night's rest after turning off the game. And I feel blessed and in love with it.

Seriously

I haven't been this unsettled since the first 3 Silent Hill games way back.
The unsettling camera angles really get to me, the creepy paranoid-indusing sounds and visuals trigger me and make my armpits smellier than my grandmother's stew.

People complain that the perma-death mechanic ruins the game. But I say that makes it even scarier and it ups the stakes. You actually feel like your life is in the line.
