Higher education in Scotland is currently free for residents of Scotland but that may change at some point in the event of a political shift. Elsewhere in the UK higher education fees still apply. If I may ask what field are you aiming to do your Bachelor’s and Master’s in? It would probably be good to see which UK-based universities are offering courses in your chosen field so that you can make comparisons with other universities that may or may not give you a better offer. I was twenty at the time I started university.

Time and Eternity is an interesting example of the above. While it’s obviously not a VN, it does retain a number of design elements commonly encountered in them. It also had no ‘wrong’ answers: choosing different answers never stunted your progress but instead allowed you to learn different things about the characters and world. The concept behind that was nice, even if there were a lot of things that were considered questionable about the game’s overall quality.

I also enjoy VN’s that that require the reader to respond to other characters but not so in the typical way: it’s often interesting to see VN’s in which there aren’t any ‘wrong’ answers. It used to be a convention of the genre to have the reader try to figure out which was the ‘best’ answer to give a character, which if done correctly would then lead them to one of the ‘good’ endings. But I prefer VN’s that don’t do that and offer different paths to follow that don’t arbitrarily lead to a ‘good’, ‘bad’ or ‘dead’ end, mainly because it feels less like a game and makes things more immersive (or at least helps to give the impression that the characters are actual, real people I’m interacting with and not just ‘vehicles’ put in place for the sake of plot progression).

I think that multiple endings and branching narrative paths are always nice things to have at least as far as VN’s go. I tend to dislike stories that revolve around harems but I can tolerate that type of thing for a bit if there’s a strong overarching plot. It’s more of a problem when the harem becomes the entire focus of the story altogether.

No worries, I actually just assumed you didn’t go on very often in general, but I do hope you get well soon.

I've yet to play any of the Danganronpa games but they certainly look interesting. I remember following a lot of the news surrounding the first game leading up to its release and immediately being reminded of SMT. Are there any particular things that you don't like to see in VN's, for example specific themes, settings, plot twist-related tropes etc.?

It'll seem a lot less random before the end of the month. :P Interesting though, as I thought that would be the case. Do you have any particular, favourite titles when it comes to VN's?

*Poses you a seemingly random question; which in all likelihood is probably not random at all.* Platformers or visual novels: which would you typically expect to enjoy more?

Ah I see. In that case good luck your studies.

Oh? What might classify as 'senior' stuff if I may ask? :selphinehappy:

Well those two are certainly classics, so I hope you'll get the time to enjoy them both eventually. The second game has a particularly clever plot twist towards the end which was pretty big in terms of narrative design, at least for its time (hopefully you haven't had that part spoiled for you, but otherwise you likely know what I'm referring to).

Gamasutra recently tweeted out an interview with two of the staff members behind the development of VC, no doubt in response to news of the upcoming PS4 re-master and sequel. The article was fairly old but I thought I should share it with you in the event that you hadn't yet had the chance to read it: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/132252/emotions_and_war_the_valkyria_.php

I don't normally spend as much time as that on open-world games, but I think this one is pretty nice. It's primarily the core gameplay loop that's sustained my interest up to this point.
