a full fledged JRPG from digimon with no expenses spared, it feels like a missing Shin Megami Tensei game, sadly wish some of the original anime ost made it into the base game + different digivolve animations because who doesnt want to GOLDEN ARMOUR DIGIVOLVE

i knew it was something special not even 10 minutes into the game, it has that awe and scale of playing a game like NieR for the first time again and i feel its going to exceed it, a masterpiece still to be recognized.

it made me feel young with a life i didnt have, if you are easily moved then the soundtrack and general vibe of the game will probably have you crying. Westkurst is amazing btw.

It's sad to see the front page says Mixed reviews, this game clearly has a ton of love put into it and offers a really generous demo before you buy. Yumia is a fun character and the world is full of flavour where you least expect it, the combat is a bit of a mess and the alchemy system has been streamlined again to the point theres very little emphasis on what you actually decide to make as the main cast do well enough without it, the world design has some really pretty areas but you will likely need to mess with the settings to get it looking the way you want, I feel it is worth the price and some people's expectations are way too high especially with the way the last 2 generations of Atelier games have been heading, looking at you Sophie onwards. This was the game Atelier Ryza 3 was supposed to be.

Edit 24/03/2025:

I was hoping the usual variety in the soundtrack would come into effect ( fierce battle 1, 2 etc ) but so far I have only heard the one default battle song, the pacing is dragging out a little bit but i can only hope theirs more than just clearing out camps, the base builder mechanic while cute really doesn't serve any purpose other than fluff especially since the Atelier aspect is just unlock what recipes you can, craft 1 or 2 items then ignore it until its needed for a quest, I still think its worth the purchase i just hope it picks up a bit before it falls into the open world trap Ryza 3 was. I really miss the ryza music ngl. It's much more of an action adventure JRPG than the traditional laid back resource gathering and crafting roots of the older games which makes me sad but I saw it coming, revert back to the older crafting systems please and less overpowered anime team :)

Edit 27/03/2025:

The lack of any depth behind the crafting system really hurts a core gameplay loop the series is known for, in other games in the series being able to sink 20-30 minutes into developing your items every couple of sessions which in turn will directly empower your team + open up branching story options / side content is an engaging gameplay loop that seems to be completely abandoned this time around which causes the game to be much more focused on the generic modern day copycat recipe of Genshin Impact or Breath Of The Wild, it hurts this is the direction the current generation of the series has taken, especially with the amount of effort that seems to have went into making it. The cast and crafting systems alone actually brings it back around to Ryza 3 > this.

this game screams mood and atmosphere, rough and gritty in most aspects but in a way that seems to work for it more than against it, i saved someones robot daughter and hopefully i can have legal guardian rights to her as well, great soundtrack and the way you can move around the levels feels fresh, it also has tarkov-esque inventory management with similar weapons + gunplay, i love poland.
