Early Access Review
Fun, Simple, Satisfying game. Easy to sit down and play for 20 minutes at a time (as the name suggests) or you can wind up playing for hours. Developer is putting out new updates and content quickly and regularly. Can't go wrong with the low price. It is an insane value that everyone should at least try out.

To start, I want to say that I absolutely love the gameplay in the XCOM series. The small squad turn-based combat is both challenging and rewarding. I have beaten both XCOM: Enemy Within and XCOM 2 on console, and now, I bought and have been enjoying playing through XCOM 2 on PC. The game can be difficult at times, but remains fair, and beating it feels like a real accomplishment.

All of this considered, there are a couple of things that desperately need to be addressed...

The game runs like garbage. Ran awful on consoles with regular crashes, but I still managed to limp through. Imagine my suprise when I switch over to PC with an i7 and a GTX1080 and the game still runs like garbage. Constant frame stutters and huge amounts of hesitation during actions, especially when there are a lot of units on screen. A new problem that I have encountered on PC is a hard crash during the cutscene before the last mission that completely power cycles my computer.

Another smaller issue that I have found on PC is that sometimes the controls bug out. You will go to select an option for a unit to perform, and the game will then register the wrong command, or after you select a command, will automatically target the closest enemy rather than allowing you to select the enemy you want to attack. While this problem can be combatted by regularly saving and reloading when it happens, I will sadly never attempt the Ironman mode on PC, as these issues can easily cause a mission to go completely wrong, and leave you with no way to take it back. Imagine how depressing it would be to have a 20+ hour playthrough ruined because of a misclick you cannot control.

Again, I really love XCOM 2 and think that it is one of the best strategy games in the genre, but there are severe performance issues and UI bugs that can be frustrating, and should not be overlooked when considering purchasing this game.
