Stardew Valley is a simple game, meant to be played to relax and chill, probably to lo-fi hip-hop beats to chill and study to. In it you are simply a man or woman who has inherited your families old farm in Stardew Valley. Its your job to make a living with it, and you can do it in a variety of different ways. You can farm, mine, fish or forage with more careers to be added in if the devs are to be believed. Not only that but the town has a host of eligable bachelors and bacheloretts that you can woo to marry you, have kids and grow a family of your own. It even has same sex couples if your into that which is something that Harvest Moon shyed away from until reletivly recently.

The gameplay is simple, if you can click and have a keyboard you can play it flawlessly. Not only that but you also can run this on nearly anything so even if you don't have a NASA supercomputer this game will run a-okay. A lot of games like this also sometimes feel a bit like a grind after seven or eight or a hundred hours but, for some reason that I can't really put my finger on, this game doesn't. Even after 150+ hours of this game I still find it as fresh and fun as the first hour. With the recent multiplayer patch I can only see this increasing since it can give people more ways to play and couples in the real world another avenue of fun on rainy days. Not only that but the upgrades to your home, the community center and farm buildings, not to mention all your tools give you a hefty amount of content to look forward to; along with the random requests from your neighbors also encourages you not to just plant the most profitable plants for any given season.

Thats not to say this game is completely flawless however. I find that the game really doesnt give you a sense of time passing. Everyone stays the same age from year one to year fifty and outside of your farm and the community center, nothing really changes. Maybe thats intentional but I feel like a series of Community Upgrades could help, maybe attract a few new NPC's to the town as they are built. I see ConcernedApe may be inching towards this by having more people come to the towns for the festivals, but I really do hope he explores this more. I also find that town feels a bit dead after the first few years, after the initial few events are played out. After that running around and hearing the same few lines of dialouge can be a bit annoying. They don't really acknowledge the progress of your farm which, at least for me, diminishes the affect of turning the overgrown fields into a field of life. I also had some bugs but they were nothing major and the latest patch seemed to have ironed most of them out.

Overall: 9/10. Certainly worth the 15 or so USD I paid for it.
