As much as I was hyped for the game and love the setting, the devs have failed to really listen to their community. Giant zerg clans ruin pvp and make it impossible to actually get anything as they will raid you constantly. They never have bothered to help with this at all so many people, myself included, held out hope for private servers. Where like ARK there could be clan caps and maybe even increased rates to be able to see endgame stuff as a solo/duo...

Well, when they finally announced them, they would only be available through a specific host provider, the same one they use. One that costs and arm and leg and proven shoddy at best connection. Then theres not even any options for anything, not even a admin set up to kick cheaters, make private servers literally unplayable at that point. Needless to say, many just gave up hope and left on that note.

Now maybe stuff has changed regarding the private server stuff since it first came out, I dont know, but i hope it has, cause thats really only this games saving grace untill the devs fix their game.

It's like Ark, but pirate themed and somehow a lot better.

Edit: It still is much of the same, but I will admit its getting better, if only for some of the stuff they put out. I would still steer away from officals but they are no where near as bad as they so to be, what with all the x2 events they do now.

Even though many other reviews say the same, I still feel the need to say it as well. I have almost 1,500 hours into this game so you know what I say can be taken to fact.

I have played Ark snice it first came out, I played before stone teir and even before the old dupe glich wipe. Back then, ark was fun, I speant a day building a wood base on a island and tameing 5 stegos because they are awesome. Each dino had its worth, be it the stego for best berries(not including bronto) or the carno for hardy battle mount. If you have a Rex or bronto, you were considered top tier.

Now none of the dinos matter as bigger, better versions of them exist, if you tame one, it was a waste of time and reasources and others do it way better. With every patch they break the balance more and more, to the point were next patch dinos are better than the last ones. With it also taking years to get anything advanced as the very little harvest rate, requiring many person tribes to even make somewhat proggress.

However, ARK can be mainly sumed up in two words: Alpha Tribe

All public servers have one, and if your lucky they won't stomp you just for existing. If your unlucky, the first time you log in, you wake up in a metal spawn box and are unable to do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I was a veteren of server 80, played on it before the alpha's moved in. They called themselves The Tyrants(Strangly fitting I might add). They were douches of the highest caliber. When plant x came out, I grew one inside a railed off part of my wooden house. Come back later to find my base gone entirly and killed by a level 250 Rex. When I asked why, they said, "It attacked me." If you had a stone base, they would wipe you because you were 'PVP ready', but if you had a wooden base, they would wipe because 'You shouldn't build in wood! NOOB!'(Exact quote more or less.) When snow came out, they declared that they ruled the snow and would kill/wipe anyone that went into it. Then came the chrismas event... "Snow touched everything, so we destoried everything." Even when me, my brother, and a friend started a entire server rebellion againist them did we lose because they had 20 max level gigas when ascended saddles. Now server 80 is a ghost town. Good.

Anyway, my point is that alpha tribes will kill you constantly and nothing you do can change that, espically now since the tech updates, which just killed the game really. The strong get stronger and the weak, weaker.

If you wanna play, do it on a unoffical server and probably modded as well. Its the only fun you will get out if it. Unless your a machocist, in which case go nuts, do whatever.

While my nostalgia clouds my jugdement of this game, I can really help it! This game was my childhood for so long.
Even for a game as old as it is, it has aged quite well. The game is still very fun to play and really addictive as well as haveing some really good ideas for a game that some games like it today haven't done yet.

It is not all sunshine and rainbows as even though I love it there are still some problems with it. Crew dissertion can seemly happen at random and is really annoying when they take one of your good ships with them. You end up needing to retire and divide up the gold every few years or so to stopo them from killing you basicly.

The hand-to-hand combat could be better instead of the little cut scene stuff you get.

All in all, I would rate it:

11/10 would make every port dutch again.

I would recommend this game mainly because of the great crafting systems it has and is more, "Oh, you want this? well too bad, either go make it your self or have a tech build it for you." That might scare so people off, but for people like me who love that sort of game then you might anna give this a try. I also see alot of peopel complaining of slow download times and game crashes, i never had the game crash on me at all and got this thing done downloaded and playing in under 30 minutes, which for me is fast. Another thing Fallen earth does that i like is the fact you can either be in 3rd person or 1st, i for one enjoy it in first person, but to each there own i guess.

Space engineers is a awesome game, i rate it a good 10/10 stars for its nice real feel
