I've played many tower defense games, and most are pretty similar - you get resources by killing the bad mans and spend those resources to upgrade your towers. Nordhold changes that - kills don't get you resources, instead you have a town you build up and allocate workers in to get your resources, and have to split those resources between upgrading your economy or upgrading your defenses. The added complexity makes this one of the better tower defense games I've played. There are a few downsides - namely, the UI could use some work and there are some descriptions that are not clear - but the devs are aware and are working to improve those, and extremely responsive on their Discord server.

I honestly cannot say if this game is good or not. I tried to play it multiple times, but for some reason, just a few minutes in, the game would crash. I forget the error, but it was consistent, so I looked it up. Square Enix told me to check the disk for scratches. As Steam isn't scratched, I looked for other people. Most semi-official sources recommended updating my drivers (which were fully up to date), and the community found that if you disabled SLI and underclocked your video card it would usually work, but I wasn't willing to nerf my own computer because of bad programming. So I figured I would wait, and see if they patched it. I could be patient. So I waited a few weeks, and I noticed that there had been a patch somewhere in there, so I figured what the heck, let's try it again. And to their credit, it did not crash two minutes in. Instead, it hard locked my entire computer while tryign to load what I think was the menu, if my memory serves correctly as to the timing. I wish I could refund the game, but alas, as it was given as a gift, the best I can do it uninstall the hide this unplayable pile of crap.
