A friend wanted to test the new update despite the reviews and got me the DLC. Yeah... it really is THAT bad. Not only are people having to pay more money while the game is in EA for content, but the content that was given is both incomplete AND bad. It removed any good will I had about this game.

I can't in good faith recommend you buy anything from these developers. It's like having an adversarial DM in a ttrpg, except worse. Stay away from Arrowhead - they never actually learn. They just want your money and nothing else.

The game was fun, but the lack of updates for 2 years because of a legal dispute and eventual walkout of the devs because of what the CEO has done has made this game not worth picking it up. Even if I were paid to continue to play, I still would not. I have no desire to be on this platform with the management that exists on it.

The grind of this game continually gets worse even while they add more vehicles to the game and refuse to fix certain bugs. Issues are only fixed when it makes sense for them to do so they can make money off of it, and they continue to also make more and more premium vehicles higher and higher in the tier lists with the excuse that they're not 'top tier' despite them always doing this 1 bracket lower into what used to be top tier.

They're also tone death where they ignore everyone who isn't paying for the few people that are. It's obvious they really care more about the money than the community.

Okay, my earlier take on the game has shifted. As time went on, I got more and more frustrated with AI that seemed to overtake players in ways that does not feel realistic. And considering the current state of the game and the AI somehow not improving since then, there's no reason to play the game. Modding helps, but mods should not be required to fix what is a major selling point of this game. If all the time spending on the rest of the content was worked on actually making the AI functionally realistic in the way they behaved, we might be in a better position than we are now.

There's no reason they should be asking money for the quality that the DLC is at right now. I'll come back to this later in the future if it improves, but as it stands right now, save your money.

This is an update to my initial review from 2017.

The ICO has actually reinvigorated my love for the game. No longer can you go from a full sprint, turn, and snapshot some dude directly in the head 50m away in the blink of the eye - something I did CONSTANTLY before the ICO. It got boring and stale. Being able to completely just run around and wipe an entire squad because of aim alone. When I got into the game initially, it was because it was supposed to be a spiritual successor to PR. It drifted more and more away from that, and eventually I just got really tired because it felt like I was playing battlefield more than anything else. Everyone just ran around without really any real teamwork going on, no matter the type of server I played on.

ICO has changed a lot of it. I've found people generally willing to work together a lot more than before, firefights turn into fire and maneuver - something I'm used to from the military, and people are less likely to run out into the open and rely on fast twitch-aiming skills to get themselves out of a really disadvantageous position.

If you know what you're doing, you absolutely can still shoot. You can't just run around all the time. If you need to be precise, you need to take your time. And, btw, that does actually take time IRL. Hitting target that are a certain size in a range is cool and all, but most people I've seen complaining about shooting in the game vs IRL forget that at a range IRL, you've been resting still for a while. And they expect to shoot the same way in game after moving around a lot with kit on and carrying that gun for however long it's been.

I enjoy the game a lot more now. Infantry fights feel like there's tactics instead of aim duels 24/7. You can still push enemy positions if you are methodical and work with your team. It reminds me a lot more of PR again, a game I've played for well over a decade and still have installed.

TL;DR: I enjoy the game a lot more again and enjoy the ICO. It actually feels like the game is going back to its original premise.

Would've said the game is bearable at the start of its release, but in its current state, it is NOT worth the money. Online is rampant with hackers. And from what the company has taken steps to do, they have been shutting down avenues to allow people to play mods online while not actually connected to the actual servers so you can't actually pad your stats. If you hoped for eventual mods in multiplayer, it's still available, but it's no longer worth it.

This game is very fun and quickly gets hard as you get into it. Only 1 person needs the game in order to actually play it with their friends. And if you think the defuser has it easy, just wait until the bomb is needy. I recommend a piece of paper and something to write with for anything that involves memory. Trust me, you'll be happy that you did.

Another thing, the game teaches good communication. If you don't sound sure to the bomb defuser, you're going to make them nervous.
