The first news about the development of the game appeared along with the official announcement - August 12, 2011. Rumors that the company Valve, responsible for the series of games Counter-Strike, is developing a new part of the game (the last at the time the main game of the series, not counting a separate version aimed at the Asian audience, was Counter-Strike: Source 2004) Days before [4] [5].

In the announcement of the game, it was reported that the developers promise to keep the game process of the "classic" version of the game - Counter-Strike 1.6, and add new maps for multiplayer battles (among them there will be remakes of old cards with improved graphics), models of fighters and weapons. Among other improvements expected online tables of records and automatic selection of rivals. It was said that the game will be released in early 2012, and in 2011 it will be demonstrated at the exhibitions PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo. The game was developed for a personal computer with operating systems Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, and for game consoles PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (where it appeared in the online services of PlayStation Network and Xbox Live respectively).

Some sites have suggested that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be based on the latest version of the game engine Source, developed by Valve, on which all the latest games of the studio are built; However, in the official announcement there are no refinements concerning the technological part [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]. Several large sites have published a "game trailer", which in fact is an erected amateur (in particular, the inscription at the end of the clip has been changed) by a trailer of another part, Counter-Strike Online.

Approximately simultaneously with the first news-announcements of the game, there were reports that the developers of the company Valve invited the best cyber-athletes playing Counter-Strike for testing a new part; One of the testers described his impressions of getting acquainted with the working version of Global Offensive in a small preview in which he reports that "the project is developed on the updated Source engine", confirms data on new types of weapons and that the game will have improved and reworked versions of old maps ("the maps looked great, the players' skins and animation are incomparable, and the weapon models are extremely beautiful"); According to the tester, the game is a working version, but "looks better than some pre-beta" [12] [13].

August 15, 2011 there were other news about the game: it became known that the studio Hidden Path Entertainment, which works with Valve, intends to update the Counter-Strike: Source (in conjunction with Global Offensive updates) after Global Offensive, details on some details of the game process (for example, the money system has been completely reworked, new explosive items have appeared - the Molotov cocktail and a false grenade that simulates gun shots, knocking the enemy off) [14].

August 20, 2011 and a few days later news began to appear that developers intend to make the multiplayer mode cross-platform, but this compatibility will only be with the Windows version, the Mac version and the version for the PlayStation 3; that is, the owners of the game, playing on the console, and players playing on personal computers, will be able to fight together on one server. "We no longer want to divide the gaming industry into isolated islands," said Gabe Newell, founder of Valve, commenting on the support of the cross-platform game [15] [16] [17]. It was also stated that the version of the game for the PlayStation 3 will fully support management from the keyboard and mouse (which can be connected to the console via the provided USB ports). Standard control is available from the console controller and control from the PlayStation Move controller [18] [19] [20].

Gabe Newell also criticized Microsoft, noting the excessive closure of the software platform, which does not allow the implementation of many network functions, including a joint game with other platforms (for this reason, a joint game with Xbox 360 players can not be implemented) [21].

On August 26, 2011, the first official trailer for the game was released, in which graphics were demonstrated (use of the latest version of the Source engine at the time of game development), gameplay (including a new menu for purchasing weapons), maps and weapons [22] [23].

September 6, 2011 it became known that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be presented at the IgroMir 2011 gaming exhibition. The exhibition will be the first in the world to show a PC version of the game [24].

September 19, 2011 it became known that the so-called "casual mode" will be available in the new game. Beginners will be able to play individually; The game for them will be more simple, and the weapons will not need to be bought [25] [26].

September 22, 2011 the company Valve announced that among the multi-user modes will be modes Arsenal: Demolition and Arsenal: Arms Race. These modes in
