This game scratches a generic RPG itch, but does not feel like a Dragon Age game.

Dragon Age has always been a hallmark in character and player-character relationship writing, and I just feel like that isn't present in this game. Many points in the game's writing feel half-baked and unrealistic, and due to how small 'exploration zones' are, you don't get very much in the way of passive dialogue between companions. Everyone feels like they 'get along' too well, and we don't have any bristly encounters or disagreements between characters like we did in Inquisition.

Combat feels very stiff, but the effects are pretty and getting a perfectly timed block/dodge off feels good. Companions feel non-existent in fights, but they still draw aggro, so it keeps hordes of enemies from constantly attacking you. Despite this, you are regularly doing a 3+v1 in combat and this just isn't very fun when it comes to enemies who have high armor or shields. Ability combos are kind of obtuse and poorly explained, and it feels like characters that interact well together don't actually have abilities that interact well together.

With that said, there are some good points to the game. The world design is great and the levels are very focused. This is a good and deliberate choice on the part of Bioware, and I think the game benefits a lot from the world design. Visual effects look great, and particles are emphasized excellently, likewise the game's lighting is great and the lighting work can really make or break the lackluster character art, showcasing just how much good lighting carries any game. The reactivity of combat is great, and I actually like the return to fast paced, DA2 style combat over the slower, more methodical DA:O/DA:I combat. I still feel as though DA:I is the best mix of these styles, but Veilguard handles it alright.

Major choices shape the world akin to what was present in DA:I, but the extent of these so far is just a reskin of a region and new enemies in that region.

I, overally, expected more. If you want a generic fast-paced RPG, this is a great game for you. If you want a Dragon Age game, this really isn't for you.

EDIT: Sony has cancelled the update, rejoice!

I didn't agree to create a PSN account. I didn't agree to have my data handled extremely poorly by Sony.

Literally everything went right for Helldivers 2 and some idiots at Sony decided that they have to shoot the game in the foot because it was doing too well or something. Probably to meet some new account quota they can tell shareholders about...

For some reason, the developers decided to pick the single WORST method of putting a ball in-game.

I wish unspeakable violence to everyone who recommended I play this.

A major rework has broken many features I enjoyed about the game while adding content that is incredibly niche.
