I gotta say, I'm a Mega Man fan, I have many opinions about the series all the same as others. This is a game, I cant agree should be rated so highly, let alone one of the most well received Mega Man games.

100% Achievement run aside.

The movement just feels incredible clunky even when using speed gear, this also ties into other gripes (like level design and enemy placement spoken about later).

The checkpoint system is griefing, I get you can just buy tons of 1-ups versus having to farm for them, but making you replay half of a level because you died just before the miniboss room doesnt feel like an accomplishment once you get past that, have no lives left only to be sent back and have to slog through the first half all over again hoping you make it to the second half with more lives.

Level designs are just bad, when they feel like they should have wall jumping or dashing like the X series.
I shouldn't be required to use speed gear for every obstacle of a level for it to feel like a cohesive level.

The enemy placements, as well as the overall amount of enemies on one screen is just obscene, again forcing you to use speed gear in just about every room instead of just playing the game (I'm aware the speed gear is PART of the game, but it makes the game boring)

A lot of the boss weapons don't feel fun to play with, nor do they function in a nice way to just use them to hit enemies or other bosses. (Notably, acid man, tundra man, and blast man) acid man is an armor that barely blocks anything (doesnt block physical touch) and it's counter is when the shield absorbs a projectile it pops blobs off in an arc. blats man is a slow moving bomb that can attach to projectiles or things other than the boss, and tundra man is a vertical small tornado around you, effectively needing you to be touching the boss.

There is never any feeling of accomplishment for getting through a level because it was just a situation of frustrating level design with boringly easy bosses with the mini bosses being more interesting at times.

But don't follow my opinion on whether you should play this game or not. Get it and experience it yourself. But I wanted to be an outlier and say, this is a very weak installment. (I also feel this way about x8, even though everyone loved that one apparently. But I got lots to say about that game too)
