I came back to this game after not playing for many years because of fond memories of the unique mechanics and the strategy. I cant think of another game quite like this.

I really enjoyed the problem solving, and scenario planning aspect of the game. It is a ton of fun to play, once you figure it out, and this is where this game falls down, in guiding new players.

I would highly recommend new players to not shun character guides and other online resources to get going. This is a ten year old game and I think they purposefully designed the game around "discovery" mechanics (especially around character skill progression and item effects) so you learn by doing, Which I think would be fine if you unlocked something that documented the information for you so if you step away for a few weeks you don't forget. I find myself wasting resources to "find out" what something does only to have forgotten even later in the play through.

Personally I think if this game underwent a UX/UI cleanup, slightly better tutorialization of some of the mechanics and better information persistance you could re-release this game today and it would attract a huge following.

I would not recommend this game primarily at it's price point. The game seems drawn out for no particularly good reason with a lack of polish in many places, I find the art and story not terrible, but underwhelming.

If you are a hollow knight addict looking for a fix while you wait for silk song, it might scratch the itch, but does not stand up as it's own game in my opinion.

I am not recommending this game primarily due to price and experience.

Played couch multiplayer with someone else for an hour and we stopped playing because we were both bored and did not feel like it was worth the price.

Early Access Review
Picked this up when it was recently on sale. I really like the pitch of an extraction rogue-like miner/dungeon crawler.

This game is still early access but I have gotten 30+ hours of gameplay so far. Given it is an extraction game I would probably recommend new players to store their stuff, and take some risks with gear they can easily replace to learn the mechanics. This is not a game that you can try to over prepare for and tank everything, you are going to die early on, so leave the run when you have something valuable. I played way too conservatively in my first 10 or so hours, and I would have learned a lot more if I had been more purposeful in setting aside runs.

Played it on a Steamdeck, so some of the menus are a little hard to navigate, but once I figured out the right buttons there were no challenges.

I would call this on the earlier side of early access, but if you like these sorts of games it is one worth keeping an eye on or jumping on if you expectations are aligned. Looking forward to more content and updates.

Just play over and over to learn all the things, very rewarding once you figure stuff out, don't be afraid to look things up online.
