Perfect Multiplayer Horror

A game I had always wanted. Perfectly blends the polish and feel of a single player horror game with the ability to play with friends. Doesn't feel like it compromises what Outlast is to achieve that.

Don't Starve has this unparalleled charm that you rarely find in games. I remember playing this almost 10 years ago with friends when it originally released. Coming back now with my girlfriend, now older, and able to tackle some of the more difficult aspects of the game has been so fulfilling to me. So then imagine my excitement to come back and see that this game is still alive and well. Seemingly getting great post launch support and still thriving to this day. The gameplay loop is so addicting and the art/animation quality is remarkable. I love seeing all of these official animations Klei has been releasing. I also love the idea behind the game and the lore that backs it up. Dying over and over again in the constant, but taking the knowledge you've learned forward to get better and better every time. Learning new things to craft as you go on. No hand holding. Just you learning how to survive. Great game :)

I'm a newly converted fan to the Star Wars franchise thanks to this game. An unbelievably well written and structured story being supported by the beautiful worlds you'll visit throughout. The combat system is extremely satisfying and can definitely get really difficult depending on which difficulty you decide to play on. Surprisingly deep customization for the playable character (Cal) and his equipment, this really helps make the adventure feel like your own. I could easily recommend this game to anyone, star wars fan or not, who are just looking to find a great single player experience. I hope Respawn gets the opportunity to keep working on what they've built here. Can't wait to see what's to come. 9/10

Having played this game almost everyday since launch I feel as if its time to state my honest opinion. tl;dr at the end

- Introduction/Build up to release

I will admit right from the start that I love the fallout series. Even from the game transforming from a turn based style game to a faster paced FPS style the Lore/World has always been very interesting to me. This being the case myself along with some large number of others went into the game with a lot of hype. This caused a lot of problems for me maybe for others aswell.

- First Hourish
Going into the game I think the Pre war segment was OK but could have been soo much more in depth. But for what it wanted to do (Character Creation) it implemented it in a good way. I wish that the start to this game could have been more like Fallout 3, Where as you go through so many years watching as things change around you etc. I think that would have been a more interesting start IMO. The Vault you come from (111) just felt like it could have been so much more but it was just a thing to easily transition your character to post war without question. This isn't really a huge problem but it really kinda sucked.

- First Steps In The Wasteland
Right as you exit the Vault I instantly was 90 times more pleased with the art style of this installment. While others might not like the less realistic looking art style, I think it worked really well for the universe the Guys and Gals over at Bethesda wanted to put us in. So skipping ahead about 20 min of gameplay you find yourself at the part from E3 where the Deathclaw pops out and you're in power amor. And it was not satifying to me whatsoever. I understand what they were trying to do, introduce you to the power amor mechanic early on but oh god... It felt pretty poopy. You could tell that they were over eager to through you into it and it felt awkward in a way. But after this my feelings towards this game really set in.

-Exploring
This is what I think Bethesda's Fallout's have done really well, Even though the map is a lot smaller than I thought it would be (Not saying its tiny but ya know) there is a butt load of stuff to do in the world. There are so many building/ruins/cave's etc to explore that it honestly blew me away. Not only was there alot to explore but there was alot to collect. Whether it was Junk for mods/settlement building or the Magazines and Bobbleheads it always felt like there was something to find. The side quests also felt much better compared to Fallout 3. Not Prestons quest because saving a settlement is really only exciting the first time, but the many random and crazy ones you come across in the world. The Locations you could explore also really helped build upon the Lore that myself including many others love.

- The Story
Without saying too much about the story I just want to say that I think the story was pretty decent. The characters felt like they had emotion and the dialouge not freezing everything around you allowing them to walk and flay their arms around really added to that. Not the best story to a game but I enjoyed it. Hopefully DLC will add onto the ending heavily.

- Settlement building
Not going to get into this too much because it didn't really add to the gameplay for me but it felt pretty cool. I did set up a pretty awesome base just to store my many suits of Power Armor and a bunch of other stuff but I'm not really creative enough to do much more than that, will get more into it in the future. (Mods will for sure raise this up)

- Final Verdict
I recommend this game, Why? I feel like Fallout 4 did a really good job putting the player in a world rich with things to find and explore. The story was kinda lacking but it worked. Give this game a chance because even though the game kinda starts out slow it picks up and turns into a really awesome experience. 9/10

- tl;dr
Game starts out kinda meh and then becomes really interesting. The world is filled with so many cool places to explore and there is a lot of things to collect. The story was not the greatest in gaming history but I still think it was cool and fun to play through. Settlement building wasn't all that interesting to me but I can see myself getting into it more when the creation kit is released and mods start adding more better things. If you liked playing Fallout 3 I recommend this game. 9/10
