Disclaimer: you do need a top end rig to play this game, I was comfortably getting 60 fps on high settings with ryzen 9 and Vega 64 but I would get some rendering glitches if I played for more than 8 hours. There's also still quite a few bugs but in my experience nothing game breaking.

I played my first run on hard with Nomad start but found myself restarting after a couple hours doing the corpo route and very hard difficulty. I found the Nomad character story to be kind of lame and I found hard difficulty not challenging enough.

I originally went into this game with a little doubt, especially since there was so much hate online; however, in my opinion this has been one of the best RPGs I have played in my life. Throughout the game I felt so immersed with the musical score and the captivating story. Every single song in this game is an absolute banger and some songs just hit so hard especially in one specific scene (I think some of you know what I'm talking about). Fair warning this game does have its fair share of dialogue but that is to be expected in RPGs.

In terms of actual gameplay, the game could be improved, the entire run I felt that melee was more well hashed than ranged weapons and was also more fun. Many guns in the game are really stale and actually feel somewhat useless. I found myself in one stage going really into melee but moved out of it since I reached some missions were enemies were all using shotguns that one shotted me. To be fair my build was not min maxed too hard as I was trying a lot of different things and I think you could make any build very powerful if you just completely focus into it. That being said there are some mission trees that favor a certain build set (sniper usage, melee, tech weapons). By the end of the game my load out was the arm blades cybernetic upgrade, johnny's pistol fully upgraded and modded, the sniper from the Panam mission tree (best sniper in the game imo), and a fully upgraded assault rifle. I had also had two katanas that I would use for bosses, I stacked crit and damage to high profile enemies on one and electric shock stacks on another (very useful for last boss). Crafting mechanics were something I did not even touch for the first 30 hours of gameplay, but it not the difficult to rap your head around, and upgrading your weapons to the max can lead to some pretty powerful stuff.

In terms of the AI, there is times where its godlike and will hunt you down and shoot you through a million layers of steel, then there is other times it was just really stupid, like they will be staring at you doing nothing but shouting random set phrases. In certain moments I did die and have to rethink my strategy on how to take down certain bosses or enemies, in some cases switching my loadout with something that would fair better. All in all though there were some very memorable experiences with gameplay, especially with the right cybernetic upgrades and weapons. 90% of the time while fighting, I would say I was having a blast.

Starting the game coming from a game like GTA or a normal first person shooter might feel weird as you go in very very week, taking down enemies can take a full clip even while shooting them in the head. But as you progress and min max your build you can have so much fun with it. I personally went for an annihilation build where I just destroyed and massacred my way through every mission. And even playing on Very Hard, by the end of my run, I was slicing and dicing my way through even the strongest of enemies (just make sure to stock up on those inhaler heals).

In terms of the feel of the city, its honestly pretty lively, with areas on the map being more/less populated depending on time of day. A spot like Japantown will be bustling in night time while dead in the morning and other places are vice versa. Would be cool if they gave a higher city density option for players with stronger CPU power so we could get even more lively cities.

Personally, I had no issue with money in the game, just by doing most of the side missions you can see yourself racking up almost half a million eddies (without doing the soda infinite money trick), I would just recommend picking up everything you find (even junk) and selling everything you don't need in drop boxes in between missions. I found a lot of use for money in the game from heals, cars, cybernetic upgrades, guns, mods, and clothing. Speaking of clothing, I originally did not know how to feel about clothing acting as armor in this game, but as the game progresses, you are forced to change your outfit regularly from day to day since the armor scales with your progression, which in my opinion added into the game immersion. I do have to say that there were times, especially earlier on, where I looked pretty goofy just to have the max amount of armor but later on you get some really cool pieces of legendary clothes from side missions that you can mod and work with.

The side missions are also really good! I spent a lot of time doing side missions (my total game time for 1 play through was almost 55 hours) and I finished the main mission tree with still a whole bunch of side missions left, I think if you are going in for your first time and planning on doing every single mission, you will get between 80-100 hours of gameplay which is honestly really good for an RPG.

One thing I do have to say is that I really feel bad for PS4 players who bought this game, my friend tried to run it on his PS4 and its completely unplayable. He got around 20 fps while not in combat with 720p resolution. In combat the frames would drop to less than 10. Although this would be a perfect time to say "PC MASTER RACE" it does suck for the many people out there who dropped 60 USD and are ending up on youtube watching people play it because they can't. That being said, the game even looks amazing on medium settings (expect for the rendering issues I experienced, especially when recording the game).

I just finished my first run before writing this review and I really liked my ending, and now I already want to go in for a second run with a different build where I take different decisions, that to me means the game was successful! If you are reading this and are currently downloading the game to play it, don't spoil the story for yourself!!! Enjoy every moment of the game and let yourself get immersed!

If they fix all the bugs and fix optimization issues for people who have weaker machines, I would give this game a 10/10 but for now its 9/10.
