Beware of Changing Terms of Service - Feels Like a Bait and Switch

As someone who enjoys cooperative games, Helldivers 2 initially seemed like a decent purchase, especially if you have friends to join in. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's not bad either. However, a major issue has emerged that potential buyers need to be aware of.

When I purchased Helldivers 2, I carefully checked the terms of service and was satisfied with them at the time, particularly because linking to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account wasn’t mandatory. This allowed me to try out and enjoy the game for about a month. However, things took a disappointing turn shortly after that.

One month into the game, the developers changed the terms of service, now requiring all users to link their game with a PSN account. This wouldn’t be such an issue if not for PSN’s notorious history of data breaches. For someone conscious about their digital security, being forced to potentially compromise my data is unacceptable.

Moreover, if you refuse to link your account under these new terms, you lose access to the game entirely—a game for which I've already paid. The lack of an option for a refund from the place of purchase because of the timing feels particularly unfair. This change not only undermines consumer trust but effectively locks you out unless you comply with conditions that weren't initially agreed upon.

Calling this change frustrating would be an understatement—it feels downright deceitful. I've started to seek out class-action lawsuits against the game’s developer for this kind of predatory practice. I am also initiating a campaign to advise all my acquaintances against purchasing any future games from this developer or any related studios if this issue isn’t rectified.

There’s no place for such deceptive practices in the gaming market. Potential buyers deserve transparency and fairness, qualities that Helldivers 2’s developing and distributing teams seem to disregard post-purchase.
