When you’ve played a lot of video games, they start to feel formulaic and predictable, but when you’re new to games, you don’t yet know how they work or what the outcomes will be. They’re mysterious, surprising, and full of possibility. This game brought that feeling back for me.

There were plenty of moments where characters reacted in ways I didn’t expect—like running past a guard in dirty rags and being stopped for a search, or a farmer spotting me on their property and quickly sweeping through their house to see if anything’s missing. Places I explored didn’t feel like they existed just for me to loot; they felt like natural, believable parts of a larger world.

The intro teaches its systems naturally through character interactions and story elements rather than disruptive prompts. Henry feels slow and awkward when attempting skills he isn’t good at, but as he improves over time, actions start to feel faster, smoother, and more confident. Even something as simple as adjusting his arm for an attack becomes noticeably quicker at higher skill levels. It offers unique, immersive crafting systems, along with a beautifully designed UI/HUD.

I could write a very long review detailing all of the unique character encounters, the very natural and often funny dialogue, the intriguing quest lines, and the gameplay systems, but if you have any interest in its realistic historical setting, I urge you to go in knowing as little as possible.

This has been the most enjoyable and immersive RPG I’ve played in over a decade.
