RACCOON CITY

The Raccoon City Incident was a catastrophic viral outbreak that occurred in September–October 1998 in Raccoon City. The disaster began when the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation accidentally released the mutagenic T-virus into the city’s water and sewer systems following an attack on scientist William Birkin, who had developed the experimental G-virus. The virus rapidly spread among the population, turning most residents into zombies and allowing bio-engineered creatures to overrun the city. Law enforcement, including the Raccoon Police Department, collapsed as the infection spread , while survivors such as Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine struggled to escape amid Umbrella’s attempts to cover up the disaster, including deploying the bioweapon Nemesis T-Type. With containment impossible the United States government authorized a nuclear strike on October 1, 1998, destroying the city and killing the remaining infected, an event that ultimately exposed Umbrella’s illegal bioweapons research and led to the corporation’s downfall.

S.T.A.R.S

S.T.A.R.S. in Resident Evil stands for Special Tactics and Rescue Service It is an elite special forces unit operating under the Raccoon City Police Department (R.P.D.) established in 1996 to handle unconventional crime, terrorism, and rescue operations before being effectively destroyed in 1998 during the T-virus outbreak

LEON SCOTT KENNEDY

Leon S. Kennedy was an American law enforcement officer and later a federal agent who gained recognition for surviving and helping expose the events of the Raccoon City Incident in 1998. At the time, Kennedy was a rookie assigned to the Raccoon Police Department and arrived in Raccoon City on September 29, 1998, just as a viral outbreak caused by the Umbrella Corporation had overwhelmed the city. The release of the mutagenic T-virus turned much of the population into aggressive infected, while experimental organisms linked to the G-virus appeared throughout the city. During the crisis, Kennedy assisted fellow survivor Claire Redfield and protected Sherry Birkin while uncovering evidence of Umbrella’s illegal bioweapons research. He escaped shortly before the U.S. government destroyed the city with a nuclear strike, and his experience and testimony later led to his recruitment by federal authorities, where he became a specialist in operations against bioterrorism.

CHRIS REDFIELD

Chris Redfield was an American special operations officer and former member of the Raccoon Police Department S.T.A.R.S. who became one of the earliest investigators of illegal bioweapons development linked to the Umbrella Corporation. In July 1998, Redfield took part in an investigation of a series of murders in the Arklay Mountains near Raccoon City, where he and other S.T.A.R.S. members uncovered a secret Umbrella research facility conducting experiments with the mutagenic T-virus. After surviving the incident and exposing the involvement of their commander Albert Wesker, Redfield continued efforts to bring Umbrella’s bioweapons program to light. Following the destruction of Raccoon City during the Raccoon City Incident later that year, he became involved in international operations against bioterrorism and later served in the global security organization Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, where he played a leading role in combating the spread and use of biological weapons.

JILL VALENTINE

Jill Valentine was an American law enforcement officer and special tactics operative best known for her role in exposing illegal bioweapons research connected to the Umbrella Corporation. She served as a member of the elite Raccoon Police Department S.T.A.R.S. unit and participated in the 1998 investigation of murders in the Arklay Mountains near Raccoon City, where she and her team uncovered a hidden Umbrella laboratory conducting experiments with the mutagenic T-virus. Following the subsequent Raccoon City Incident later that year, Valentine became one of the few survivors who managed to escape the city while being pursued by an experimental bioweapon known as Nemesis T-Type. After the destruction of Raccoon City, she continued efforts to expose Umbrella’s activities and later joined international anti-bioterrorism operations, eventually serving as a founding member of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, where she helped combat the global spread of biological weapons.. she was almost a jill sandwhich by the way :)

CLAIR REDFIELD

Claire Redfield was an American civilian and humanitarian activist who became known for surviving the 1998 Raccoon City Incident. She arrived in Raccoon City while searching for her missing brother, Chris Redfield, only to discover that the city had been overrun by a viral outbreak caused by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation. During the crisis, she worked alongside rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy to survive the spread of the mutagenic T-virus and the appearance of experimental creatures linked to the G-virus. Claire also protected and escorted Sherry Birkin, the daughter of scientist William Birkin, helping her escape the city before its destruction. Following the incident, Claire became involved in humanitarian and anti-bioterrorism efforts and later joined the organization TerraSave, which works to assist victims of bioterrorism and expose illegal biological weapons research.

ADA WONG

Ada Wong was a covert intelligence operative known for her involvement in the 1998 Raccoon City Incident. Operating undercover in Raccoon City during the outbreak, she infiltrated underground research facilities linked to the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation with the objective of obtaining samples of the experimental G-virus developed by scientist William Birkin. While pursuing this mission, she encountered rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and cooperated with him at several points as both attempted to survive the spread of the mutagenic T-virus and the collapse of the city. Although initially presumed dead during the incident, Wong ultimately survived and escaped before the destruction of the city, continuing her activities as an intelligence agent involved in the covert acquisition and monitoring of bioweapon technologies.

ALBERT WESKER

Albert Wesker was an American researcher and intelligence operative associated with the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation and later known for his involvement in global bioweapons activity. In 1998 he served as captain of the Raccoon Police Department S.T.A.R.S. unit in Raccoon City, a position he secretly used to gather combat data on experimental biological weapons created with the mutagenic T-virus. During the investigation of murders in the Arklay Mountains, Wesker betrayed his team and attempted to use them to test Umbrella’s bioweapons within a hidden research facility. Although believed killed during the incident, he survived and continued operating independently after the subsequent Raccoon City Incident. In the years that followed, Wesker became a central figure in the international trafficking and development of biological weapons, pursuing advanced viral research and power through the acquisition and use of experimental viruses.

BRAD VICKERS
Brad Vickers was an American police officer and helicopter pilot who served as a member of the Raccoon Police Department S.T.A.R.S. unit in Raccoon City. In July 1998 he acted as the pilot for the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team during the investigation of a series of murders in the Arklay Mountains, an operation that led to the discovery of a hidden research facility operated by the Umbrella Corporation and its experiments with the mutagenic T-virus.

The Resident Evil 2 Remake is in my opinion what a remake should be but does have its flaws, firstly nothing will compete with the original games they add so much tension and story to the game that these remakes just miss the mark on.

Firstly you will find yourself playing as either Leon or Claire, for those who are new Leon is a rookie cop heading into raccoon city for his first day on the job and claire is heading into raccoon city to find her brother Chris. both characters first meet at the gas station after Leon saves claire from a lurking zombie attempting to bite her from behind.

Now the game really starts when you reach the city streets and head for the RPD (Raccoon Police Department) you navigate a through a few zombies into a tight alleyway before ascending some stairs to see the sight of the station towering over the city being such a landmark feature of the RE series. now my first critic here is the outside section itself in the original you have a much longer outside sequence where you truly get the feeling of survival horror, the streets are swarmed and with the janky controls of the OG and the locked camera angles you get as you navigate leon/claire through the streets adds to the intensity. in the remake your outside initially for a couple of minutes max with no real problems to face.

Once you reach the RPD Leon/Claire bolts the gated entrance shut to keep the swarms outside from entering this is where the game treats you. you approach the Doors to the RPD and push them open to be welcomed to a warm masterpiece a place of safety youve just locked out the undead and you are greeted to a stunning hall with prestigous architecture on display with a box to store items and a typewriter to save this feels like the safest place.

You spend most of your time navigating the RPD which at first will feel like a maze, shutters to open, doors that require certain keys, safes to crack, armory lockers to find pieces too even being able to access the S.T.A.R.S armory and obtain higher grade weapons the station is yours to explore. but your never alone

throughout every nook and cranny of the station are undead officers, colleagues you would have been welcomed by on your first day heading into the west office you can even see the welcome they was planning you. your main objective in the station is to escape and you do this by finding 3 medallions around the station all needing there own 3 symbol puzzle to be solved. along the way you will encounter the tyrant (trenchcoat) or more commonly known as MR X who is a officially known as T-00 he will be a lovely fella and spend his time lurking around the RPD trying to find you and detecting you from you running and shooting at other zombies.

T-00 is a B.O.W (Bio Organic Weapon) his model is a T-103 Tyrant series which was massed produced by umbrella and was tasked to be dropped into raccoon city and retrieve a sample of the G-Virus and eliminate any remaining survivors, you can hear him a mile away with his loud ass footsteps echoing throughout the station. I personally love how he interacts through out the station, his movement speed is just slower than your jog so you always have the chance to make that split decision to get away however he can open most doors within the station.

Im getting too carried away with this and dont want to spoil the game for anyone who hasnt already played this beauty so i wont say anymore.

overall the game is great is does miss bits from the original that would have been nice to see but have to take it for what it is, it lives up to the survival horror the pacing is good making the RPD the main place you spent most time. the atmosphere is perfect, flickering lights, dark hallways and only a trusty flashlight to light the way most of the time.

would have been amazing to be able to explore more of the streets in the beginning to really get the sense of "theres no coming back from this" as i said before the original masters this making it difficults to progress until youve learnt the controls and adjusted to the way you aim and the camera angles the game provides.

The graphics look unreal, the most up to date version adds ray tracing and HOLYYYYYY SHIII it looks gorgeous. but use Non RT for mod compatibility (modding scene are gods btw)

finally my personal preference in my most recent playthrough as crazy as it sounds was to turn off the BGM (background music) it really intensified the game for me, walking around RPD after clearing corridors of zombies to be alone with my own footsteps, the sound of rain hitting windows doors creaking open, showers left running you really understand the situation and you really get sucked into it more without the music. and of course MR X and his loud ass footsteps kept me alert hearing his boots smack the floor from across the RPD not knowing where he is or what angle he came from really added to the atmosphere.

Will always love the game series, unfortuantely too broke for requiem rn but i will love that just as much as all the others. TY for Reading :)
