It's easy to see why The Walking Dead is so loved. I've somehow managed to avoid spoilers for this franchise, and picked up all the games in a bundle. The cast of characters are well fleshed out and I really enjoyed seeing my choices in previous chapters/episodes coming back around to deliver consequences. The art style is very captivating. The voice acting is great. I enjoyed my time with this game, and I am looking forward to playing the next season.

Avoiding spoilers for 14 years is not an easy task. I am glad that I was able to experience this story unfold without knowing what each choice would bring. Some things were a bit frustrating, and I struggled to wrap my head around why certain characters would react the way they would off of one isolated incident, but overall I thought the choices had pretty fair and logical conclusions.

The characters are well written, and the motivations of each character lined up pretty well with who they are. I definitely found some characters quite unlikeable, which is usually a good tell that they are written realistically in my eyes. Each character made things difficult in their own way and there are some very hard choices to be made between doing the right thing or the smart thing, or even the thing that you want to do. The consequences of your actions and choices did make logical sense, even if they felt a little harsh.

The plot was a little predictable at points. It's pretty easy to tell when something bad is going to happen "out of nowhere." This isn't to say that it is bad, I just believe it is something to be noted. If you're looking for something where the story completely changes based off your choices, you might want to look at Quantic Dream's games. The story beats seem to have been "on rails" with this one. I don't think this is a bad thing, mind you, just not what I was initially expecting.

I loved the comic-book-esque cell-shaded art style here. Really stands out and makes the game feel unique. Not much to say as this is very subjective. I think it looks awesome.

Overall, I give "The Walking Dead" an 8/10
