It's for games like this that Steam needs a scaled rating system. 7.5/10
Great story. Mostly great game. 3 of the bosses try hard to ruin it.

Given the fact that this is a game built almost entirely on parrying, it's frustrating when you can't stop a chain of actions to parry or dodge. Also any hit seems to slightly stagger P. For a split second you can't move and for just slightly longer you can't parry or dodge. Not a problem for most of the game, but for the very fast bosses chaining attacks, it's annoying you can see P not reacting to your input as another attack comes in. Yet for the most part, your attacks don't have the same effect.

There are minor issues with it such as bosses that jump very high in the air, yet the camera angle cannot look straight up. In some places it's like ledges are covered in grease. It's possible to be pinned against a wall or object by an enemy and have no way out, it's effectively a death sentence with certain enemies.

*Minor spoilers*
Most of the bosses are fun with good cut scenes.
3 of them are not fun. The King of Puppets, Laxasia and the Nameless puppet.
There is clearly a reason the achievement % drops off at each of these.
The times I beat them, it was luck of the draw of how aggressive the boss was feeling that round.

Sometimes it feels like that game goes out of it's way to kill you if you do "too well" and get close to killing the boss quickly in the first few rounds. You'll soon be punished with an onslaught. Yet if you just stand there and practice parrying, you don't get the same intense beating.

For the fights with the spectre, for me just using a single HP re-gen wish on it worked well to keep the boss distracted for longer. Other wishes are okay, but nowhere near as impactful as simply having two of you in the battle for longer.

Save throwing items until you have the boss down to <10% health, then use them to help finish it quick. Otherwise don't bother using them, they're effectively a limited resource before you'll have to go out farming for them.

I beat each of the above 3 by using fable arts and throwables in those last few moments.

Quite short 6~7 hours, stutters occasionally and crashed twice. So I wouldn't pay full price for this. But in a Steam sale for <£15, it's not a bad buy.
It has a good story to it, it's an interesting game.
There are only 3 short "gore" moments, don't let them put you off.

3 hours in, 4 x BSOD. I'm running a water-cooled MSI 3090, 24Gig decent GSKILL DDR4 ram, reasonable CPU/MOBO and a decent 850W psu. I'm clearly not the only one. The first few hours have been good, the graphics are great, but can't recommend with BSOD happening to lots of people.
Edit: A year and a half on, I now have 32 Gig DDR5, I9-14900k, Strix Z790 and the 3090. I don't get BSOD anymore, just really regular crashes to desktop. Sometimes it can go a few hours without crashing, sometimes it can crash 5+ times in an hour. I've tried a whole range of graphical settings and it still crashes. How can they not have fixed this.... That's not event mentioning the none fatal bugs that are rampant. It's not a bad game, but the bugs and rampant crashing means I can't recommend it.

I got about halfway through this game and then it regularly started to BSOD on me. Sometimes I could get away with a few hours play, other times it would blue screen every 10~15 minutes. This is a problem with this game, no other game does this and there are lots of reports of it online. Glad i only paid £6, but if I had known about the BSOD error I would have just got it on PS instead.
The game itself isn't bad until the last few hours. At one stage near the end it takes all your gear away for no reason, then it just goes downhill, things that were normal game play are thrown out of the window. The final fight relies on a gaming mechanism not used for the entire rest of the game.
If you want to play this, most of the game isn't bad, but get it on PS.

One of the worst games I have ever played.
Who in their right mind decided that changing the controls that PC players have used for years, was a good idea? WASD is just about the only "normal" control to survive. Every other button is something stupid and non-intuitive.
I already run my mouse at a reasonably low sensitivity, <1000 DPI, but that is STILL too high for this game, that camera is massively over sensitive even when set to the lowest setting.
Game play is horrendous, it regularly snatches control of the camera for no reason, movement is terrible, you can only crouch for a second. They didn't learn the lesson from RE5, as you are regularly waiting/reliant on your dumb-ass companion.
The game is essentially split into four campaigns, each with a part to add to the same story. I was playing for the story, working through each game. I have made it through some bad games for the story, but I had to stop before I even finished 2 of the 4. The game is terrible. Don't waste your time, it's heavy on the cut scenes too, just YouTube it to find out what happens.

Only play this game if you want the story line. Preferably with someone else who is competent.
You're forced to play with a partner* throughout the game and the computer program controlling her, if you play alone, is shockingly bad. Prepare to be frustrated as she runs off into enemy fire, doesn't use her weapons when she should, wastes herbs/sprays to restore health unnecessarily, hordes ammo when you need and gives it you when you don't. One of the worst implementations of a forced NPC partner I have ever seen.

There are also game breaking bugs that require manual updates from the CAPCOP forum, instead of just releasing an update.

*Can be controlled by another player over the internet/LAN.

Brilliant game! Far far far improved from the first game. It is VERY long if you decide to do all the side quests and DLCs. This isn't a bad thing though when many games are getting shorter.

First impression - This game will not be that popular in 12 months let alone 12 years...
This does not feel like a spiritual successor to the L4D games.

Before you even get into the game you notice the little things that give you an idea of how much the details were paid attention to.

First off captions don't actually turn off... turned on by default is great for accessibility, however personally I find them distracting so turn them off - first cut scene they're still on... check setting - yep off, next cut scene still on. Ah I see they didn't actually check the options thoroughly...
Which leads to, you can't choose your audio input device, I'm assuming it just chooses the Windows default, but when Windows has a habit of changing it in the sound options for no reason and after updates, or inconsistently chooses the input device when you connect/disconnect headsets/turn on Nvidia broadcast, that will become annoying. Let me set it in the options so I know it's using broadcast, not direct from the mic. God knows what will happen when I use the wireless headset...

Now L4D2 didn't have a particularly smooth launch, but they clearly haven't learnt from that.

The difference between ADS and non-ADS, is overly drastic, I have shot at zombies, non-ADS, <1 meter in front, dead in the cross hairs. I might as well have been using a fair ground gun with a bent barrel, the bullets had a ridiculous spread on the wall behind and the zombies that might as well have been sat on the muzzle were unharmed.
As for looking down the sights you might as well put the kettle on, make a cup of tea, drink it and then use the mug to kill the zombie, it will be quicker.

The special infected don't really feel all that special... you don't feel anywhere near the same threat level as in L4D2. They just do a bit more damage than normal infected... shoot the red spot, done. Their main threat is they seem to spawn in excessive numbers just to be annoying, No real threat of getting charged/pulled away... getting pounced... or blinded and swarmed.

The bots suck at reviving you if you play solo mode, which ties into the stupid continue system, especially if you're playing solo, 1 continue then back to the start is just a joke.

Verses - What were they thinking? Two things have kept L4D2 going for the last 12 years, campaign verses mode and MODs. Verses mode essentially being just survive on the spot, is not going to keep it interesting. It should be stop them making it to the other end of the level like in L4D, if it aint broke - don't fix it applies here.

Stamina regeneration feels far too slow.

Cards and skins exct.... What is the Fortnite... CoD...?

I wanted to love this game, I was sceptical from the beta and early release reviews. Now I have requested a refund. It certainly isn't worth £80...

If they implemented a proper decent campaign verses mode I could probably overlook the problems. But the devs have said this isn't going to happen, which is a terrible decision.

Good points-
The Ogre reaching in and throwing you when you try to hide from it is an awesome idea!
The graphics are great, the level design is really interesting with more places to explore than most L4D2 maps.
The range of weapons is pretty good (Shotguns are a little questionable though.... quickly put that back down)

Unfortunately these aren't enough to save it.

I recommend the game but would give it a 3/5 if this were star ratings. The remaster of the graphics is great but they could have at least remastered the unit movements to remove the bugs as well. Harvesters parking themselves at walls blocking/saving Tiberium for later, instead of harvesting the further away patch you pointed them to just minutes before. Units inconsistently attacking passing enemies when travelling and other bugs around troop movement that could surely have been rectified when remastering the game. Also I get that the enemy 'cheats' in these games however, fully refilling 4 silos each time you look away, when there is no harvesting for the enemy to do, is a little much.
