@Ponlets - No, it just allows you to make the prerendered cutscenes match the way you play the game (e.g. specific aspect ratio, framerate, etc).
Ponlets 20 Jan, 2024 @ 5:10pm
does this mean that i can play Halo 2 Anniversary with real time cutscenes?
Lulech93 30 Dec, 2021 @ 1:50pm
For those asking for a different download host: Vidsquish is now on Nexus Mods! https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/328 👏
Lulech93 18 Jul, 2021 @ 12:10am
PSA for anyone wondering about Nier: Automata cutscenes after the most recent update: despite reportedly being updated to higher res and 60 FPS, as of right now they remain identical to pre-patch. Still just 900p 30. Existing Vidsquish conversions remain compatible with the update, and necessary for high FPS.

I have not tested to see if engine updates now better support 60 FPS and alternative aspect ratios without FAR.

I never thought I'd see the day! Congratulations on 2.0.0! I look forward to the next time I play a game this supports!
Lulech93 12 Feb, 2021 @ 9:44am
It's finally here! 2.0.0 with multi-processing and library manager! See the announcement for details: https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/groups/vidsquish/announcements/detail/5202190708564425294
aguswings 29 Jan, 2021 @ 11:44pm
i have a triple monitor 48:9 set up (1080P). What ratio do I need to use to convert Nier Automata movie? apparently there's no 48:9 ratio option for me to convert
Lulech93 20 Jan, 2021 @ 8:43pm
For this reason I will be calling it version 2.0. ETA is when it's ready. :)
Lulech93 20 Jan, 2021 @ 8:42pm
This should be the "last" version of Vidsquish in that it will finally realize the goal of being fully customizable, so that any necessary form of new content can be added without recompiling the application itself.
Lulech93 20 Jan, 2021 @ 8:40pm
This will break compatibility with previous versions, but shouldn't be too big a deal. And the benefits will be things like proper recursive directory support, the promised libraries manager, and internal multiprocessing (i.e. the same as running multiple instances, but without having to manually split folders)
Lulech93 20 Jan, 2021 @ 8:37pm
Little update: work is going slower than I'd like, but exciting progress is being made. There's been a lot of changes to my IDE that made compiling Vidsquish a pain, so I'm currently in the process of fully updating the code. This also means taking advantage of some new IDE features that will come in handy for us.
Lulech93 7 Jan, 2021 @ 7:00pm
I'll see if I have some time to work on it this weekend 👍
Karpata 6 Jan, 2021 @ 9:03pm
I am also getting the error below every time I click pause in Version 1.0.4.0.
So far it doesn't seem to cause any issues though. I can open and resume the project without any issues when I re-open the software.

I know multithreading is kind of a hot topic that keeps coming up so people might be interested in this: https://github.com/caseyjmorris/ThreadSquish

Also in 1.0.4
all my fellas 29 Dec, 2020 @ 10:55am
I had the same problem
Lulech93 27 Dec, 2020 @ 9:12pm
Hmm that should've been fixed in the latest version. Is this in 1.0.4?
ZimFreak 27 Dec, 2020 @ 12:04pm
So I tried to pause while vidsquish was around 50% and got this fatal error. Is there something I did wrong? Or do I just have to let it go without pausing?

Awesome dude!
Lulech93 17 May, 2020 @ 11:56am
Update is released! Includes Halo MCC profile and the new libraries system! 😃
Lulech93 16 May, 2020 @ 5:37pm
Decided to go all-out and create a profile for the entire Halo MCC. Was a little more complicated than originally expected, but results are quite positive! Just completed the first successful test run, so you can expect to see the profile released soon!
RobbyBunny 14 May, 2020 @ 1:33am
I'd totally love Halo 2 Anniversary support too!
psyc 13 May, 2020 @ 11:55pm
Well, a quality loss would be a shame, but larger Filesize is totally fine by me. Thanks for the quick response!
Lulech93 13 May, 2020 @ 11:24pm
Sure, totally doable! From the looks of it, the SWTFU profile would be a good starting point--just need to change the bitrate, base resolution, and audio channels to suit Halo 2. Only downside is that any conversion from BINK 2 to BINK 1 will result in larger filesize with some quality loss.
psyc 13 May, 2020 @ 10:41pm
Hi, any plans to make a profile for halo 2 anniversary? The cutscenes are .bk2 and appear both letter- and pillarboxed on 21:9 monitors.
Lulech93 17 Apr, 2020 @ 2:30pm
I definitely want to investigate including alternative encoders in the next update, which is making progress. The next really big change will be the library system, which I wrote from the ground up to replace the Windows utility in the current build (and actually plan to release as standalone software). On top of being way more reliable, the new library system will allow adding and removing items, so users will have the ability to add new libraries and utilities to Vidsquish, not just profiles.
Lulech93 17 Apr, 2020 @ 2:26pm
Thanks for the offer. There's really nothing to do about multithreading on my end, though. It's got to be a feature of the codec or encoder (usually the former). You can see here for an example where using a different encoder results in better speeds: https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/groups/vidsquish/discussions/0/1697168437881738120/
NRUB 17 Apr, 2020 @ 9:54am
Lulech23 do you still have plans to implement multithreading in Vidsquish? I know how it may sounds, but if you are interested I'm a software engineer and I can help you with that. C++ though.
Lulech93 9 Aug, 2019 @ 12:13pm
Depends on your settings and CPU. A recent quad-core CPU with 60 FPS interpolation will take around 24 hours for all cutscenes.
Papa Joe 9 Aug, 2019 @ 6:55am
how long does converting usually take for nier?
Lulech93 22 Jul, 2019 @ 11:19am
The file check is just to ensure you're using the right folder. Vidsquish works on unusual formats, and this way, everything except the correct format is filtered out for you. Once you select a file, the entire folder will be used.
Қͥ𝐮ͫ𝐔hͪ𝓪ͧҜͬ𝓾 21 Jul, 2019 @ 9:24am
I just wanna know since i got every right settings on Vidsquish.
But it seems like I can only pick one video at a time to compress when I choose that "Select project folder" option. I'm pretty sure I saw people on forum and things compress like 140 or 150 videos at a time but I don't really know how (been trying to drag mouse and Ctrl + A but none working so far)
Lulech93 3 Jun, 2019 @ 10:59pm
I would if I owned the games myself, but I've never played anything in the series. And actually, the framerate and resolution aren't the most important details when creating a profile (if only, ha). That's why I'd need to see a sample file to make anything useful.
Space Coward 3 Jun, 2019 @ 7:43pm
@thatsage In Darksiders' case, I'd actually recommend that you download the first game's remaster from your library. Darksiders Warmastered replaced every cutscene in the game with a new render in 1080p60.
Lulech93 3 Jun, 2019 @ 6:54pm
If you can send a sample cutscene my way I'll look into it. :)
thatsage 3 Jun, 2019 @ 7:29am
Thanks for this, there's something really neat about this even just as an idea for some PC mod that is purely enhancing games. Could you maybe make profiles for the Darksiders 1 and 2 games (remastered)? They use Blink both and are 30fps.
Lulech93 2 May, 2019 @ 12:40pm
That is normal. Some parts of the process (and some codecs specifically) do not support multithreading, so you will see low CPU usage during these phases. Give it a few hours and see if nothing has changed by then.
MAWY PAQUETIN 2 May, 2019 @ 3:05am
Hi, I'm trying to convert Nier Automata files, and it already converted 2 files but I paused it and now I think it's stuck, I check task manager and Vidsquish is using 0% cpu, ffmpeg is only using 11%, is that normal? any way to know if it's stuck?
Lulech93 17 Mar, 2019 @ 3:31pm
Four main things to check if that happens: 1) Is Windows set to English? 2) Any special/accented characters in your Windows username? 3) Any viruses preventing access to command prompt? 4) Running Vidsquish in a folder without write permissions?

Now, 1 & 2 shouldn't be problems in theory, but there have been a few users that had issues because of that.
Slayrix 17 Mar, 2019 @ 2:58pm
Don't work leaves me on unpacking libraries and has been like this for the last 2 hours still just saying same thing.
Lightning 31 Jan, 2019 @ 12:18am
Hi I downloaded VIdquish, I want to use it for FF13. I noticed there was no profile for it. Is this not supported anymore?
Lulech93 27 Jan, 2019 @ 8:48pm
A handful of PC bluray drives are capable of reading PS3 disks (there's a list of model numbers on the rPCS3 site) but unless I'm mistaken you'll be reading encrypted data, and the only way to decrypt it is to use an actual PS3. I haven't tried this method myself, though.

Personally, I don't consider video files being shared around as piracy, but my stance has always been that I won't do it myself in case publishers disagree with me and it ends up compromising Vidsquish as a whole. So if you can find someone else willing to share, go for it.
edale1 27 Jan, 2019 @ 12:30pm
@Lulech23 Need to mod my PS3? There's no way to do it on PC?

Sadly, my PS3 is a CECH-4000 model, which last I checked is unmoddable... (well, ignoring the recent way to artificially sign stuff to let it run on an unmodded system)

And I'm guessing someone linking me to a download of the PS3 video files (either raw, or already converted) would be against the rules?
Lulech93 26 Jan, 2019 @ 1:31pm
@edale1 You will need to soft-mod your PS3 to dump the game contents to a USB drive. I'm not sure if it's allowed to link to these types of guides within Steam, so Google is your friend there. That being said, please read my explanation of the caveats of working with FFXIII profiles right now. It really isn't worth your time until a better method can be created: https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/groups/vidsquish/discussions/0/1290691937717826366/?ctp=5#c1741101364282793435

Hi, I want to convert the PS3 FFXIII cutscenes for the PC version, but I have no clue how to actually get the PS3 cutscene files to convert them.

I have a PS3 FFXIII (greatest hits edition) game disc, but trying to read it on my PC just pops my BD drive's tray open (a quick search told me this is normal for PS3 discs).

Could someone provide me with instructions for extracting the video files from the game disc?
Lulech93 14 Jan, 2019 @ 1:27pm
Hmm, looking at the files, it would be complex, but possible. There's some extra header data added to the files, so they're not stock BINK videos. The bigger issue is that at their core, they're BINK 2, but they'd have to be converted to BINK 1 for Vidsquish, and BINK 1 files are always larger than BINK 2 except with extreme compression. BINK transcoding is also abysmally slow. Seems like a lot of effort for little benefit, but if you still want to give it a shot I can write up a profile when I have the free time. :)
Prometheus 14 Jan, 2019 @ 9:34am
Would it be possible for a profile for Mankind Divided to be made? It's .pc_binkvid files take up 10GB
Lulech93 22 Nov, 2018 @ 5:31pm
As of right now the time required to finish them is massive and there'd be no benefit to image quality without a way to mod other game files.

Since videos are stored as combined files, the game has to look at specific byte addresses to find the right ones. These addresses are stored in secondary files within the game data.

It's possible to maintain the same addreses if the videos are the same file size or less, but not greater. And since the original files are BINK 2, but only BINK 1 is a publicly available format, there's no way to have better image quality with equal or lesser filesize.
[LSSAH]Canzah 22 Nov, 2018 @ 1:19pm
When can we expect the FF13 Profiles to be fixed? It's been almost a year :(
