14 Oct, 2013 @ 12:50am
Totally the three little pigs that involves rolling down a hill in a butter churn, and pelting the wolf in the face with apples. I had a version of the book that was the full on Grimm version that was lost somehow when my 10 year old self got redirected to a different airport and put on a bus to my destination. It makes me sad to this day that I have never found that version.

The firebird. I love the outwitting of faerie rather than being 'beautiful' or 'generous' or 'virtuous' enough to merit the happy ending.
13 Oct, 2013 @ 11:31pm
Grimm's Cinderella
13 Oct, 2013 @ 11:29pm
Hansel and Gretel, but only versions where they get eaten at the end.

The Russian Soldier: a soldier captures death. Hilarity ensues.
13 Oct, 2013 @ 9:05pm
Humpty Dumpty.

Why? 'Cause the story never said he was an egg when he fell.
13 Oct, 2013 @ 8:34pm
peter and the wolf
13 Oct, 2013 @ 8:16pm

Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
I mean, it has Bears in it.
The bears EAT her.

Or at least in my version they do.
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:33pm
Rumpelstilskin is where its at. The ending where he gets so angry he tears himself in half is a thing of beauty. The author practically invented the ragequit.

I gotta go with The Emperor's New Clothes. Like all good tales it takes a man's hubris and uses it to be his undoing. You just have to admire the moxie of two guys to not only con a ruler but the entire town! The fact that the nudity was pronounced by a child is a great reaffirmation of "out of the mouth of babes..." saying. Plus unlike most fairy tales on humiliation and gold is the price. The Emperor can afford the gold and frankly needed to be knocked down a peg or twelve. Plus in the end we see him learn from the mistake and become a better man for it. Usually in fairy tales you mess up once ya dead son! This is a good life lesson for all to learn from and not some horror story with a moral lesson.

I think I'll have to go with Little Red Riding Hood. Classic!
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:21pm
The coat of many colors is my favorite
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:19pm
I think I'd have to go with Little Red Riding Hood as my favorite fairy tale.
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:18pm
Rumpelstiltskin is definitely among my favorites, for sure!
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:18pm
The three little pigs because it teaches you that wolves are douche bags.
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:15pm
My favorite fairytale is The Sleeping Beauty!
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:07pm
Obviously Little Red Riding Hood for teaching that one day our grandparents will be replaced by wolves who will try to eat us.
13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:01pm
Godfather Death [en.wikipedia.org]

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are my favorites. Thanks very much for this giveaway.

The Little Red Hen. It's a fairy tale with morals I still strongly resonate with. Got to do the work to get what you want. Always be nice, even if you aren't sure you'll get something back. Karma.
