Thanks for nothing Valve. I'm sure you're all enjoying a nice laugh in your limo ride to the bank.

steam-linux group is a fake, it would not be very serious to leave it represent our cause...

http://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/groups/sforlinux (68m)
I'm posting this on the above group pages so we can decide on which of the top two groups to join, I would pick steam-linux because it has the most members and steam_multi-os had a message about having all its members join it. (I joined them all so I could post this message and to help boost the members in each)

Gold source engine on wine with ATI cards kills me
29 Jun, 2010 @ 11:47pm
I can't get full performance of my computer through wine, I need games and steam that really wrote on unix
29 Jun, 2010 @ 2:00pm

29 Jun, 2010 @ 3:23am
I'm wondering how мﻭғ`Brice knew that I'm a Linux geek... Oh well though, I would love to see the Linux client get released soon!
29 Jun, 2010 @ 1:57am
Hi all, thanks for invite. Open sorce is like love, it is there for both rich and poor, smart or normal, little or high.
28 Jun, 2010 @ 7:11pm
Well, most Valve games are based on DirectX, but obviously OpenGl versions are available now. Makes me wonder if future games will be have OpenGl support on Windows. I get the feeling they won't though. DirectX tends to perform pretty well on Windows itself.
27 Jun, 2010 @ 2:13am
Im using openSuse /w KDE4; but I think the distro wont matter. Much like the win version, the linux version will also be based on opengl (or isnt it?) - so steam does not rely on any specific desktop environment.
25 Jun, 2010 @ 2:54am
hi,if VALVe release steam 4 linux, what distro do you will choose,if dont have instaleded yet,if you all ready have what is that and what desktop Gnome,KDE,XFCE...?
23 Jun, 2010 @ 7:44am
The Mac version is indeed OpenGL, it's still choppy and stuff but considering it's only a month out of beta and there's a few nvidia driver bugs involved, there's room for improvement. If anything steam is indeed putting some pressure on Apple and ati/nvidia through them.
I'll be fair, I like the idea of it on principle even if right now I use a mac, because it will mean they have to fix the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ paths.
Oh, and Postal 3 will be on linux, it's written using source. I leave you to your conclusions ;)
2 Jun, 2010 @ 5:07pm
As you can see from HL2 und Portal, they've ported the Source:Engine to OpenGL (although I didn't verify that) - this means, probably every Source game will be ported, because the main work is done. In addition, Valve anounced on his website, that every few weeks, another game will be ported. Thumbs up for Linux xD
2 Jun, 2010 @ 12:04pm
dsl linux il sont englais
30 May, 2010 @ 5:08am
Si, déjà Steam étais porté sur Linux, ça serait déjà super, après, les jeux sources, c'est autre chose, ça devra être porté aussi, mais ça risque d'être long...
29 May, 2010 @ 3:11pm
It is comming this summer. The Rise of Linux is near.
25 May, 2010 @ 4:36pm
Please have Steam, Day of Defeat: Source and Team Fortress 2 ported to Linux!!

It's time to bring more real gaming to Linux and put pressure on the graphic card retailers to give us better drivers!!

I'm getting tired of having a Windows partition just for gaming!
13 May, 2010 @ 2:51pm
very good !!, trop bien !!
7 May, 2010 @ 2:05pm

I guess you didn't read their last article "There Is No Doubt, Steam Is Coming To Linux!".
23 Apr, 2010 @ 4:26am
"Linux client is coming, according to Phoronix" that doesn't necessarily mean that it IS going to. they just looked at the code for the launcher in the mac and found that it also has a variable to handle linux. nothing in the article says that it's definitely being released for linux as well.

but i hope to god it does!!
23 Apr, 2010 @ 4:25am
The Orange Box engine include OpenGL, this is used on the Playstation 3.
(orange box: Half-Life 2 Episode 2; Portal; TF2; and others source mods).
23 Apr, 2010 @ 1:36am
Valve included OpenGL in their Source Engine anyways? To support MacOSX? I think it's even included in GoldSrc from the beginning, isn't it? It wouldn't be a problem of support, I think. And creating a client shouldn't be that difficult, just make it open-source and everyone can help and add support for the Linux distri they use. :)
22 Apr, 2010 @ 8:03pm
at laizi ; But its really sick to see so many things tied to a crappy operating system. If the gaming industry is smart they get away from direct x.
21 Apr, 2010 @ 3:08pm
I guess that STEAM client for Linux would not benefit either party - the STEAM or the Linux USER. STEAM sells retail games for profit, to millions of M$OS users. There are only few retail games which run natiive bin. on Linux that STEAM could sell to Linux user - UT2004, ET:QW, DOOM3, Quake4, Prey and, of course, Savage2 - the best. There is no profit motive for STEAM to develop or hel p with development of client for Linux, for few games and few Linux gamers :)

I've played TF2 with Wine on Ubuntu for a years or two now I guess, with a huge variety of issues, some platform specific (PulseAudio, anybody?), some graphics card specific (nVidia vs ATI ... sigh), and of course every now and then an update breaks everything (28th January TF2 update was deadly). At present with the workaround in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21534 all seems well for now.

The rest of the Orange Box games have played very well for a long time, so long as I select -directx 81 and give up on ATI.

Yes, roll on a native client! Unfortunately I'm not hugely optimistic...

I'm sorry I can't speak french and can barely read it, but I'll try and follow the community here.
