Quick hint: you can unlock Klingons by either reaching level 6 or completing the "Stop the signal" quest.

About the bonuses: Tied to the RETAIL key, you can input various keys from different retailers into your STO account and will get the different bonuses + 30 days game time for each key. (lol @ anyone that does this)

Everyone starts as Federation. After you level a bit you'll get access to a Klingon character. I'm going all Fed for the beta.
