In case people are wondering about the raft of events suddenly spamming this group, a few of us are trying to make a bit more regular time for playing, so we're making Thursday evenings our gaming nights.

Nothing binding, nothing definite. If you're interested, simply hop online on Thursdays and see who's about for a bash. There'll probably be the usual cast of shooters, co-ops and free-to-play titles on the menu, but if there's anything specific you want to play, just add a post and maybe someone will bite.

And to think, it's only been four years since the last announcement...

It's been a while since we took advantage of a free weekend deal on Steam. I've no idea what this game is like or even about, but I've set it downloading if anyone fancies having a bash this evening or tomorrow. The claimed 3.3 GB download is now pumping 4100 MB onto my HDD...

TF2 -- Free to play

After around four years and probably four hundred updates, TF2 has moved over to a free-to-play model! Seems like a perfectly reasonable time to jump on the bandwagon and use and abuse the sudden glut in new and returning players... or proffer ourselves up as new and returning players to be used and abused!

Neptune's Pride

Following the massive (!) success of our series of Civ III PBEM (Play-by-email) games, and the more recent weekly L4D2 campaigning, there's been rather a lack of any involving activities on the Red Army front for a while.

So here's a suggestion that we start a game of Neptune's Pride, something that is essentially free to play, doesn't take too much time, and runs quietly in the background of a period of weeks or months.

Hidden: Source Server

It's been up and running since our random MOD weekend all those months back, but in recent weeks hasn't really seen much action from anyone. Today it tripped over bringing the rest of the server to a bit of a grind, so for now I'm turning it off to save some cycles and the need to keep it up to date.

Free Weekend: Lead and Gold

Lead & Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is free to play this weekend, so get downloading and make the most of it. I've set up an event for this evening, hopefully see a few of you there on TeamSpeak.

Lead & Gold is a team-based shooter, with six game modes to choose from:

* Shootout - Your basic Team Deathmatch mode.
* Conquest - Like control point maps in TF2.
* Powder Keg - Attackers and defenders trying to blow up objectives.
* Gold Fever - Fend off bots in a single player / two player co-op mode.
* Robbery - Like powder keg except stealing gold, sides swapped at the end.
* Greed - Deliver gold sacks to your team zone, as they spawn across the map.

Don't forget to get your hands on the free Alien Swarm standalone, available this Monday! I'm sure we'll find some time for a game of this during the week.

Alien Swarm is a top-down, four-player shooterd. Players choose one of eight unique characters with four different classes, and battle their way through hordes of aliens using more than 40 different types of weapons and equipment, gaining levels and unlocking persistent items as they play.

Counter-Strike: Source Nostalgia Night

To celebrate the release of more sourcey update fun to that old favourite Counter-Strike: Source, we've gone ahead and dusted off our old server (i.e. reinstalled it) after many years' absence.
