It seems those remasters will be separate titles in Steam's library, which means the multiplayer will still be playable on the older version.

they will remove the original game. so there's not 2 same games on steam
this is not a game of the year thing. where you can still buy the base game
this is a remastered thing. and for steam is not the same thing
but we can only wait and see about who is right
steam will remove the original version form the store.
and since it will be free for people who have the original.
i guesses it will update the game as a normal steam game update.
Probably, it will add another entry in the library, like "BioShock 2 Remastered"
