An Unfortunate (but also not really?) Announcement

Replicating here from social sites for the rare person using these but not those and wondering why the schedule has changed.

As the Seasons experiment winds to a close, I've come to a difficult decision. With fatherhood close on the horizon, impending immigration, and new chapters starting in both my personal and professional lives, it's time to (mostly) hang the lab coat up and refocus that time and energy, with some small caveats.

Virtual Couch remains its own entity within the larger channel, so Jonny and I will still be sharing weird games and experiences on Friday nights whenever we're both able.</li>
I remain present on Discord because, frankly, I like hanging out with my community off-air. The Discord link is available on my Twitch page and is equally available to subs and non-subs alike.
I reserve the right to pivot to game dev or surprise people with weird games occasionally. If you think I'm not pursuing my own projects with some of the time I'm getting back, you're sorely mistaken.

Honestly, I could never thank the community enough for all they've done for me since we began this journey in 2014 and that's part of why I never quite completely fade away; a zombie streamer of a bygone era.

November 27th will be the final Tue-Thu show but, effective immediately and by community vote, the Season 4 headliner of Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines has been moved to Friday night's Virtual Couch slot.

Pre-Production for Season 1: Semi-Off Until Jan 2025

Live shows are on break until January, with the exception of the Friday night show with my co-host!

This gives me a few weeks to manage maintenance, planning, and pre-production for my "Seasons" project starting in January 2025, in which I'll be running 2 months on / 1 month off and being a bit more selective and focused with my live content.

This pre-production time will include getting some edited VODs up as well now that I'm not scrambling to fill emote slots or keep our Metaphor playthrough progressing forward. XD

Back August 6th, New Evening Weekday Schedule

The recent months in Japan interrupted the show's schedule enough that I decided to take some serious time to reflect upon the show, do some surveying, and consider the future.

The "hobbyist" thing never clicked for me. Running in maintenance mode has felt like a slow, inexorable death; entropy by inches, chipping away at years of hard work and community building. I considered retiring the show but I'm more of the "go down swinging" type and I don't feel like I'm done just yet.

After much deliberation, a lot of discussions, and a lot of surveyed data, I've decided to focus on rebuilding towards the show's former quality, even if it means painstakingly laying it out one brick at a time through new alerts, new emotes, events, more YouTube, and new game series.

I want to play weird games with folks and I want to help them find the niche games they might have loved (if they'd ever played them). It's time to get back to our roots, starting with the fulfillment of an ancient and utterly cursed promise -- 13 Sentinels -- alongside the return of the 8th Annual HoboCast!

Our new evening schedule begins immediately, with Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri shows; only 1 less show than I was fielding back when I was full-time but it gives me the entire weekend to recharge, illustrate, plan, etc.

So, really, all this is to say:

Lab coats on, beakers raised. I'M BACK. Let's break some games.

One year ago today, we wrapped our playthrough of Sakura Wars and the show went on hiatus while I dealt with DD2, a global pandemic, an international move, and a host of other things.

Tech work for the pilot of Show 2.0 was completed but I wasn't able to square away the content itself by my intended deadline.

Goodbye 2020: A Show 2.0 Update

Hey folks!

I hope the end of the year is finding you in good health and spirits. It's been a ridiculous, ruthless year, but it's finally coming to a close. Let's wish it a happy-go-fuck-itself and head into 2021 with some cautious optimism.

Clearly, I wasn't able to get the Show 2.0 pilot up by end of year like I'd wanted -- it's been an ambitious AF project. Last time, I shared some really early no-context shots. This time, I'd like to share something a bit more polished:

It looks like we're good for a 2021 Q1 return but I'm not going to narrow that time frame down further until I see what the next couple of weeks bring. Not killing myself to get content out and, instead, building better systems to support creation and execution is kind of the point, so a bit of a slip in timing was necessary.

I'm really looking forward to seeing people again. It's been a tough year for all but we're still here and that's what counts most, right?

I'll see you in 2021.

169 Days Later (Nice-ish?)

Evening all!

It's been 169 days since the last show; crazy how time flies. I thought I'd give people an update because, yes, I'm still here. ;)

The entirety of our 2019 Zanki Zero playthrough -- 91 episodes -- is available on YouTube now. I'm also going to take a moment to plug the Glimmer of Hope Darkest Dungeon 2 trailer, since that game is where most of my time goes these days!

Show 2.0 is actually making great progress. Core tools are complete and there are only a couple of technical hurdles remaining between me and a pilot episode of the new format.

I'm still not giving a return ETA but I can say that I'm aiming for a pilot run before end-of-year, with the hopes that I can get our first full season launch early Q1 2021 if the pilot pans out well. Maybe earlier if things go really well.

If you want to stay more up-to-date on 2.0, it gets discussed somewhat in the Discord while I work but I'm keeping most people in the dark about specifics. Have some no-context captures from my testbed!

Edit: I should probably give people that aren't on Discord the TL;DR for why this is taking a while and why it's not just me getting back on the air with better art or something.

I'm reducing OBS to its minimum use of "transmits data to Twitch". Everything else -- all cameras, video feeds, audio mixes, transitions, the concept of "scenes" and animations -- is being moved out into an entirely custom software environment I've been building; my own digital sound stage for productions.
