A new Operation Flashpoint: Red River trailer and preview offers the first look and impressions at in-game footage from Codemasters' upcoming military shooter sequel. The clip also includes a lot of exposition in narration about the game's Tajikistan setting and its potential for a U.S. versus China conflict, all oddly set to soothing spa music.

Just wanted to update you all quickly regarding what the team are working on, as I've noted a few posts from people suggesting that we will be dropping support for the game now that the 1st patch/TU and DLC has been released. Please be assured that this is not the case and that we continue to remain fully committed to supporting the game on all formats post-launch.

Currently the team is dedicated to working on a 2nd patch/TU, and whilst the release date is still TBA, the good news is that this 2nd patch/title update will be a significant update and will address a wide variety of issues for SP and MP across the board.

While the the 1st patch/TU was primarily put out to address priority issues immediately affecting the quality of the game, the upcoming 2nd patch/TU will contain a much greater number of fixes and hopefully satisfy everyone’s needs.

Codemasters announces new Skirmish DLC will be released tomorrow for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising along with a patch for the military first-person shooter. The console versions will be patched as well as the Windows edition (here is the PC Patch Full Fix List), and the DLC will be free for Windows users, but will cost 400 Microsoft points for Xbox 360 and £3.19/$3.99/€3.99 for the PS3. The announcement is accompanied by a batch of Skirmish screenshots and there's a new Skirmish trailer on the Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Website. Here's a bit on the new content:

The ‘Skirmish’ video, available from www.flashpointgame.com, demonstrates the breadth of exhilarating new content. Players are shown going head to head in attack helicopters, deploying tanks and APCs and engaging in ranged and close quarters combat in the wide ranging new maps and missions featured in the downloadable content.

The ‘Skirmish’ DLC features four new multiplayer maps and two new Fire Team Engagement (FTE) missions featuring both solo and four player co-operative play. Hunt down SAM launchers hidden in the sprawling complex of ‘Lumberyard’ and assault dug in PLA forces and fight room to room in ‘White Fang’, two tense new ‘Infiltration’ multiplayer maps. ‘Annihilation’ multiplayer maps pitch armour and infantry against each other in rolling battles across a valley in ‘Stomping Grounds’ and in ‘Force Dispersal’ military bases separated by a strategic hill become a close-quarters killing ground.

New FTE missions include ‘All Round Defence’, which places gamers in control of air support and attack helicopters as they defend a fortified complex against relentless waves of PLA. In ‘Uphill Struggle’ players must capture a bunker under heavy fire from hillside reinforcements. Gamers can also recon the entire 220 km² island of Skira alone or co-operatively in a range of vehicles at day or night in ‘Island Tour.’

PC patch & DLC content is now undergoing final round of QA testing. Detailed information regarding content for both the DLC and the patch, along with the release date will be put out on Weds 4th Nov (Approx 4pm GMT).

Since it's release three weeks ago, the CodeMasters forums and been buzzing with both critics and supporters. Some of which have voiced their concerns that CM didn't make the game challenging enough for both SP and MP serious minded players. The modders have been digging away at the games data files, figuring out how it ticks. A few have managed to not only get familiar with how the game works, but they've begun developing their own scripts and mods.

The first mod to really stand up and take notice is Ultimate AI Mod. This modification drastically changes how the AI in the game act and react to the world around them. You will find they take cover smarter, use there weapons more accurately, use tactics more often based on situational awareness and morale. Much to your relief though the entire medic system has been improved so that ally units heal incapacitated units more often/quicker.
