Negative Impulse Returns to the CoD4 Scene with a New Stacked Roster

Negative Impulse has set out to make its mark on the Call of Duty 4 community with a new power house of a roster led by Doug “Dougski” Smith. With ESL now entering the third week of its first season I took some time to hear Dougski’s thoughts about his new lineup as well as the current state of the NA CoD community.

Q. To start off tell me a little bit about yourself. How did you get into gaming? How long have you been in the CoD community?

A. Well, as you know my name is Doug"dougski"Smith, I'm 17 years old and a senior in high school. I got into gaming when me and my older brother bought Call of Duty 2 and played it for the first time. One thing led to another and I just kept advancing into competitive play. I’ve been a member of the CoD Community since about Season 3 of CEVO, but at the time I was very young and only played leagues like XPL and TWL.

Q. What do you think about the current state of the CoD community after being "dead"?

A. For one thing, its obvious CoD4 isn’t in the state it used to be at. PC Gamers have taken a huge hit with the failures of games like MW2, and Blackops. Although, I wouldn’t say the game is completely dead, a solid amount of teams play it and we have been lucky enough to have a league like ESL trying to revive the game. In my opinion as long as a game has players it isn’t dead.

Q. Tell me a little bit about your current lineup. Who are your starting five and backups and what guns do they play?

A. I think our starting five is a well-rounded mix of experienced players, and all of us have played together in the past at one time or another.

Doug “Dougski” Smith – SMG/MG
Ryan “Deathzone” Crace – MG
Mark “cb_” Rokowski – Scope
Kyle “sixxEr” Corcoran – SMG/MG
Kevin “suNNNNN” Vallee – SMG/MG
Cole “volC0m” Seaton – SMG/MG

Q. With ESL now entering its third week of the first season how do you think you have done thus far and where do you expect to finish?

A. I think we have done very well, we had an expected first week win, and although I wish we had done better against vVv week 2, it was a great way to see my team’s strengths and weaknesses. I now know who on my team can perform and who cannot, and that is how I ended up with our current lineup. As far as where I think we will end up, I speak for my whole team when I say we will not settle for anything less than top 3, it won’t be easy, but it’s very do-able, especially with our current lineup. We just have to stick with it and get better as the season goes on. In no way, shape or form are we cocky, just very confident in our abilities.

Q. What team, if any, do you feel your team will struggle the most against?

A. I feel as if vVv is the team we currently struggle with the most. Their roster is basically the best NA CoD players in the game, and every time we play them we seem to just get outplayed. They play more as a team and have a dominate style of play that we can’t seem to overcome. We are currently working out strats to try and beat them, but it seems like they have no weakness.

Q. Alright Doug thanks for your time. Is there anything else you’d like to say?

A. Well one things for sure, no matter how this team places in ESL, we won’t get discouraged, and we won’t stop getting better.

To view the rest of the interview please visit www.negativeimpulse.com

Negative Impulse.CSS Remains Stalwart After Difficult Week

With Negative Impulse getting a substantial boost by acquiring top teams in Call of Duty 4, Team Fortress 2, and Counter Strike Source I brought it upon my self to seek out the team captains and ask them a couple questions. The Source Team is currently battling threw open with a 5-1 record with a recent loss to SYOPS due mostly to Droid, the team captain, and NeG the scheduler being on laptops and hotel Internet. With a difficult week starting I took a little bit of time from his preparations to ask him about his team, the community as a whole and give him a chance to introduce them to the other Negative Impulse teams and their followers.

Q:How long have you played CSS?

A:I have personally played CS:S on and off for around 1 year with the last 6 months or so in the "competitive" scene.

Q:What experience does your team have, both individual, and together?

A:Everyone on the team has about the same league "experience." Our experience, although not very notable, is a few matches of open here a few matches of IM there type of thing. Nothing that amounts to very much. This season is the season that we put our heart into and so far it has paid off. Myself, ^Rt_Pierre (Brian), and Neg (Matt) have played various games together for about 2-3 years. We played CS:S some during that time period, but just recently have we made the switch to put our time and effort into CS:S. The other two starters, Ezattack (Mitch) and ^Ner (Mike) were recent additions to the squad this season to round out our 5. We recently picked up Armour and Deech to be our back-ups, who are both new to the team.

Q:what do you think of the source community?

A”There are a lot of immature "kids" in the community that corrupt it for the rest, but there are still a lot of respectable and helpful players in the community.

Q:Where can it be improved if at all?

A:It is up to the player how they will carry themselves, so everyone just needs to clean up their own act for it to improve. The only other way is stricter bans on flaming, trolling, being a disruption, etc..

Q:How do you feel about ESEA?

A:ESEA is a great thing. It brings together a lot of people from different areas to play competitive games against other players with similar talents, goals, etc..

Q:Who is your starting 5?

Myself (Droid)
^Rt_Pierre
Neg
^Ner
Ezattack

Q:What weapons does your starting 5 play with mostly?

Myself (Droid) - Primary Awp
^RT_Pierre - Hybrid (mainly rifle)
Neg - Strictly rifle
^Ner - Usually rifles, rarely awp.
Ezattack - Usually rifles with the occaisional awp.

Q:What map do you enjoy most?

A:I really enjoy De_nuke. It is a very fun map with a lot of textures that are out of the normal so I like the scenery change.

Q:What map does your team perform the best on?

A:De_dust2. We all grew up on this map and just do very well on the map.

Q:How does your team prepare for matches?

A:We usually do a warm-up scrim or two then after that we will all hop into the match server and just mess around, some of us will listen to pump up music during this time.

Q:How do you expect your team to do this season?

A:Our goal is to win out and finish 15-1, but anything less than making IM (winning at least 1 match in Open playoffs) would be a disappointment.

Q:Who is your biggest threat and why do you think so?

A:Vision Valor Victory - they have invite experience and are very well seasoned players. They will be very hard to beat for any team.

Q:What do you expect from your team in terms of growth

A:My goal for us is to move up a division after every season and during these seasons I would like us to attend lans/tournaments both online and offline.
Team Fortress 2 Looks to Continue Domination of ESEA

With Banned from eHarmony recently becoming Negative Impulse's Team Fortress 2 team I took advantage of my down time during the day to ask the team captain and medic CHE about his teams up-coming matches and how they are preparing to face some of the top ranked teams in open.

Q:What do you think of cp_badlands?

A:Well cp_badlands is one of those maps in TF2, its been played in pubs and its the number 1 map for any competitive tf2 to start practicing on.

Q:How is your team preparing?

A:Well when the team was forming, badlands was our exclusive map that we would always scrim on and play just to work on our chemistry. We will always try and prepare for it and find and push certain ways if its basik trying to get a pick or shrugger doing the same.

Q:Your thoughts on your the teams your playing?

A:We should have fun, we are finally going to have a challenge on our 8th match when we HANL gaming as they are one of the top teams in Open.

Q:Who do you think is gonna be the best player on this map for your team?

A:Freddy has to be our best player when it comes to dealing out damage. Were looking for shrugger to clean up and basik to do his job causing ruckus on the opposite teams combo.

Q:What do you feel your chances are to win open?

A:Well we were predicted to win open but we still have things to work on. Its gonna be hard to convince people that we can do it since we have more forfeit wins then actual wins so we are hoping we can get more playing time as a team this season.
