Fish are a planned passive mob. In the Halloween update, Notch said he would add fish. However, he had limited time, and was thus only able to add them as an item. There is coding for fish in the game, but no model currently exists.

Dragons are a planned mob. Notch hinted during the Spider Jockey skeleton update that he will add Dragons to the game. Dragons may also be able to fly or breathe fire. Notch confirmed in his Twitter that he will definitely add a form of flying transportation. There is a chance that Dragons may be able to be ridden in a similar manner to pigs, which would indicate that Dragons are passive or may need to be tamed before being ridden.

Whales have recently been confirmed as a sea mob, although their purpose hasn't been specified, they could be a source of oil for lamps or possibly even a new source of energy. However, the squid has been the update for Beta 1.2, as the first try of whales was right before Beta 1.2, Beta 1.1_02.

Dogs are a passive mob coming in Beta 1.4., and will be used for hunting and as pets.[1] Dogs can be tamed by right clicking them with bone, which will make them perform "Sit" animation. To give dogs order to attack, left click any mob, causing your dog to attack it.

It was also mentioned at the bottom of one of Notch's posts on his blog, that he had an official working model of the dogs/wolves, and had a video on YouTube about it.

The state of Minecraft

There are manly men with powertools in our office, punching floors and walls in an attempt to make things look better. As a result, we haven’t been able to work from the office this week, and worked from home. Jens spent most of the week working on a new mob; the wolf! You can tame it and order it to follow you around, and it’ll work as a pet. They’re fairly rare, but they won’t despawn once you’ve tamed them.

I worked on the achievement and stats system. One design issue was dealing with offline mode and synching the achievements once you get a connection again, but that’s been solved. We’ve got a couple of people in the office who don’t like achievements in games at all, so the goal is to design something that they’re fine with.

Achievements will NOT be chores like “cut down 10000 trees”, but rather challenges like “ride a pig off a cliff”. Stats, however, will be used to keep track of how many trees you have cut down. The long term plan is to show achievements and stats from the profile page on minecraft.net as well, in case you want to brag.

Just keep in mind that because you can design your own levels and run your own servers, people will be able to cheat with achievements and stats! ;)

Rock, Paper, Shotgun; PC Gamer spotted that Minecraft programmer Jens “Jeb” Bergensten has uploaded a video of the wolf pets for beta v1.4 of Minecraft, and you can see it below. They sit and watch you, hunt cows, and even shake off water. That’s pretty cute.
