Had a friend have their account taken over because he's a dumbass and used an easy password, so figured I'd post this. There's a new(ish) security feature in steam.

Go to Steam/File menu, hit settings, and in there click "Verify email address". You'll get an email to you account you have registered to steam, click the link, etc. With your account verified any changes to your account (password, email address, etc) require not just changing it in steam but access to your email account as well. You'll know it's set as you'll have (Verified) next to your contact email.

While you're in there you might as well opt-in to the new Beta UI as it's quite nice. It uses webkit (think opera/safari/chrome) instead of IE.
