Hmmm. That is an interesting notion.

I feel very mixed about that one, upon thinking about it.

I need to be around more real people. That is one reason why I would consider townhome living if it got me around more happening people.

But online, I want more folks to STFU. I just blocked a major member seeing what he was posting and it made me want to puke...

At some point, life for most people became private rather than communal.

There is a nightmare scenario in which unless we implement unheard of levels of socialism we have entire lost generations that end up homeless.

They potentially get herded into camps or millions wander the streets. The rest of us barricade ourselves behind gates.

An economic meltdown occurs with entire generations removed from production and contribution to the system...

We know that there is a very small club of us who when we were young we hit it hard!

We landed girls, we went to college, started businesses, made our money, figured it out...

And we have entire generations doing the polar opposite.

What more can we say or do?

I think that is the fate of many. Many of us have been warning they can't screen themselves day and night when they are young. It will result in them being homeless.

I see this as the fate of entire generations to come.

Yes, in 2003 I met my final fiancee' in one of the old Yahoo! chat rooms!

But that was the thing. It was actual people chatting!

The observations were:

1. Forums can bring out the worst in people.

2. If it has anything to do with tech- double rule #1.


Had my health not got taken from me- I was on the brink of creating a forum with BRUTAL standards of behavior.

I really miss when IRC was big. You'd just drop in a room and occasionally chat while doing your ♥♥♥♥.

The forums that I used to go to turned toxic as hell and I simply quit.

The few that I go to are for tech and I really only go there to look for things like program updates.

Other than that- NO!!

All the other forums I used to visit are dead. I wish there was a forum with age checks, lol.

And without you there- it looks like I will be going there very minimally.

Among the few unblocked threads are "I bet you shower naked."

One of the few garden tools that got retained was the electric leaf blower.

Those are great for blowing out garages and driveways.

Apply that rule to live purchases of both plant an animal.

Buy only from sources that have strict practices such as quarantines.

I fully expect the next Civilization to utilize AI models for the AI. It could get ... interesting.

You mentioned embargoes.

Another one is simply being able to produce settlers faster and grabbing land to build cities near key resources before they get a chance.

Without them, forget it. They are stuck.

And in 6 there is an even stronger anti-war bias.

The computer will periodically declare fake wars that frequently do little and then they have diplomatic freakouts when one actually captures cities or wipes someone out.

But if one is on the warpath, then let them lose their temper and issue denunciations, That just signals who is about to get mowed down next.

Tactical play, not luck.

Yes- but they are so bad at producing that once that first wave is gone, then it's just a matter of picking off their cities one-by-one.

Even when the AI talks aggressively, their mouth is writing checks their military can't cash.

I for one enjoy taking out an entire navy on the very first turn of declared war.

Earlier I mentioned that things like bodybuilding/obesity or prosperity/poverty are magnifications.

Warfare is one that AI simply is terrible at. They can fumble around and give the illusion of being a competitor.- but ask it to truly keep up, produce, use tactics and strategy and it is going to completely melt down.

Kicking it's butt after a certain point isn't much fun when the outcome is a mere formality by that point.

See the thing about the Shoshone, when you grab a goody hut with the unique Pathfinder unit you get to pick your reward.

Tech up.

I also like to stretch out the speed.

Then even something as simple as grabbing just one more goody hut or sacking one more barbarian outpost and then using that surplus cash to rush just one granary starts the process of leaving the stumbling AI in the dust...

I can appreciate art, I don't really DO art, though.

At this point Civ 5 isn't playing anymore, it's reacting. I know just what needs to go in what square based solely on math and known outcomes. I can turn any city into a 5-turn per unit factory by the Atomic Era.

Marathon speed, always.

And if you like lit art- you know that I make that exact sort of thing.

And regarding situational thinking; I swear, every time I play 4X games like Civ. these absurd situations happen when the Ai has failed so badly that they are trying to shoot down our stealth bombers with spearmen.

Skilled players from turn 1 are going to start making decisions that start this process early and the further we go, the more it compounds...

An occupied gibbet is always a nice conversation piece.

Some of those decor really strike me- but again, they are very very situational.

Systems thinking.

Those are okay. I'm more drawn to things that light up in interesting ways, though.

I have late games like that all the time- but isn't that what people like us are doing in real life?

We figure things out and put ourselves on a trajectory in which we pull so far ahead that it becomes absurd!
