In order to get Steam to know that you are playing MineCraft, or any other non-Steam game, heres what you can do:
Go to the Library tab (right click the system tray icon, and click Library).
At the bottom left corner, hit + Add A Game, then Add a Non-Steam Game.
Browse to whereever your MineCraft.exe is (hit Browse at the bottom). Then hit Add Selected Programs.
The first time, you will have to start MC from the Library page, but after that you can just right click the Steam system tray icon to start it.

Hey guys! I just made a Hamachi network for us to play terraria, it's called "ia_terraria" and the password is "jeex". Hopefully we can all play together! One person or another can put up a server at any time, then join that person's Hamachi IP with port 7777. Then we should be good! Let's do this!
