The server has been a lot of fun for us as I'm sure most of you would agree - it's one of the best servers on Rust. Joker, Penguin and I spend most of our free time reading logs, chatting in game, steam PM's, investigating cheaters and running kick ass events. It should be obvious but in case it's not, I'll let you in on a little secret. (Running a Rust server is a maddening experience!)

It's a labor of love, we don't get paid to host the server and you guys aren't paying to play here - we hosted this server as a sanctuary from Cheaters, Assholes and liars. With the current tools Facepunch has available for Admin, it's an uphill battle against those who only seek to ruin others experiences, by cheating, griefing, ESPing. I hate to say it but Rust is losing the battle against cheaters/hackers and Garry doesn't seem to give 2 shits, so I guess we'll see what lies in store for Rust in the coming months.

The server is coming up for renewal in a few days and I think we're done deciding if we want to continue pouring our time, effort and own money into this server. So far there has only been 1 $ donated to the server for our operating costs (thank you easpider) but that's it. We aren't very aggressive on donations but we do mention them from time to time. We aren't planning a pyramid scheme to get rich, I'm already financially comfortable as are the rest of the admin - we are adults with families and jobs and those things take priority over Rust. This server was awesome but only because of the amount of time the Admin put into keeping shitty players off the server and running events and all the other behind the scenes - hours and hours and hours.

We can't obviously manage the server 24/7 - though after talking to most people, some expect that and more from us. What are we getting in return for all this effort and frustration? Nothing really - the events are fun to host but most of the time it's someone QQing about 'cheaters' which sadly... is probably is true. I would guess based on what we saw running the server that a big 1/3 of the total population are cheating. No joke - we have over 90 bans in less than a month - that works out to 6 bans a day. If we were to ban everyone we have a 75% probability of being right on (based on experience) that number would easily had been double or Triple. That, unfortunately is why we are posting this announcement and regret to inform everyone that the server will be closing in a few days.

We will do the "Rustpoclypse" event on Friday @ 9pm est as the blowout event. If you were at the last one - I'm sure you remember how much fun we had.

Gotham will remain in Limbo until Facepunch gives their game the tools admin need to run a server properly, until they get the hacking/cheating issues resolved, Gotham will live on in memory only. (and that $1 I got from easpider, lol)

Should Facepunch restore our faith in humanity (haha) by adding some features the game desprately needs, we will open Gotham once again and welcome everyone still playing to join us.

Thank you all for helping make Gotham a truly amazing experience - we broke the top 20 for overall Rust servers globally and we couldn't have done that without you folks.

Announced Wipe 3/26

This morning Joker and I decided to wipe the server slightly ahead of schedule. We were trying to hold out for the next big content patch, but for 2 weeks, there has been no info about when it will be, or what it will contain - while our server continues to grow at a Very fast pace.

The decision was based off a few issues as of late:

1) Server Life Cycle - the server is 2 weeks old today, that's a pretty good run in Rust, on a populated server.
2) Over Saturation of C4 & 'End Game Gear' - we have had several LARGE raids this week, with hundreds of C4 going off nightly. This is fun and expected but hinders new players from joining the server.
3) Performance issues - the decay was causing problems for the server after the patch last week and Multiplay recommended a world reset. This is a Rust issue, not Multiplay or server specific. This is fixed now.

So to sum things up, thank you for playing with us the last 2 weeks - but this is only the beginning! We are however disappointed that we didn't get to run our 'Wipe Event' (Rustpoclypse!) That was the highlight of our last round and I'm sad we had to skip it this go around.

This is only the second reset on our server and like this time, we don't plan on wiping the server unless required by patches, server life cycle or performance. This time it was a mix of things that prompted the wipe.

We will be adding a new non-Player Admin this next round: [admin] the penguin - will join the Admin crew and add a bunch more coverage to the server, that's good news for everyone! You should see him in game tonight.

We should be able to run 'Hunger Games' tonight on a larger scale - so that should be fun!
