Yeah... assume that I've already gone through all of the normal solutions. Do you have any other suggestions? As far as I know, you don't need to instal previous versions of directx. I'm running 11 and, unless I'm mistaken, that's more than good enough.

If you have the disk version then just use you cd key and add the game on steam. as if you just bought it.

try deleting some of your files and verify your cache. of course if you have the steam version

Install directx9

So, I just tried to open Rome TW and it just doesn't. The screen goes black for a while and then it returns to my desktop. I've tried three times. The first time it also provided an error message saying that I needed to install DirectX 9. Does anyone know any fixes for this sort of problem?

I would say,just accept whatever greece has to offer in peacefulterms. They will offer you trade agreement most likely, accept it. This is good becasue they tend to attack carthage early on, which takes some focus from us. Combine all your troops from Italy and sicily, take the troops from Italy on the boat you have and march your troops from sicily into carthaginian territory (this is the risky part). After than just put the men from sicily on the boat and head for carthage. Remember to take any mercs you can get along the way + you want to march the troops from sicily to the most western corner on the island but also from safe distance from the carthaginian city

I managed to take Carthage in 5 turns by rushing! I don't see any faster way!

We can use skype as well, it's easier to pass around info and its faster.

Also, off topic, I'll add each f you on Steam.

If someone does manage to take it that way, one of our team member could focus on just normal expansio for extra points in case other teams do well by rushing as well.

I don't know what the defences of Carthage are in the early stages of the game. Rushing seems the fastest but also the riskiest move. Using the money from the first turn we could take mercs and just see what our chances are. I will try and do a training session to see how that goes.
