Damn, looks like C-Evo isn't multiplayer capable. Well, that's not quite true since you can play it hotseat, but that doesn't do us much good.

Man, I haven't played a Total War game since the original Rome (The Europa Barbarorum mod to be specific).

Depending on tastes (Read: Tolerance for older graphics), another option might be C-Evo (http://c-evo.org/index.html) . It's a variant of the early Civ games but the overall design philosophy isn't what you generally see in larger commercial releases. Only learned of the game today, though, so I'll be playing it for the first time tonight to see how well it plays.
