Special Air Service SAS unit was created during the Second World War, Lieutenant David Sterling, is considered the official date of August 24, 1941.
The unit was staffed by volunteers from the Airborne Forces, the main task was to conduct raids and sabotage behind enemy lines in North Africa.
November 30, 1946 the unit was officially disbanded, but in 1947, on the basis of units Artists Rifles (British Volunteer Regiment) was formed modern SAS.
