This happens when you've never run any of the game dev tools, just right-click the [...] button and select CSGO, everything should be set for you. It's ok if Steam not on the C: drive but there might be a glitch if you have the game installed on a drive different from where Steam is installed.
Günther 22 Jul, 2017 @ 1:38pm
I keep getting this error:
"Warning: VProject is NOT Set!
Please Select a Game: Right-Click [...]"

What to do, i wanna use the program for CSGO.
I have my csgo install on "H://" not normal C: Drive.

Feel free to add me, if you wanna help me out! :)

Hey man great program! so much better than Valve's
When I want to 'release' my map to the workshop, what compile should I use? (Final or Full)?
Also, when I compile it, the static props are just black, how do I fix that?
explosivedeer 1 Oct, 2016 @ 8:37pm
Would this tool work for games like Insurgency, and the recently released Day of Infamy? Both are Source games so I figured it'd work but it has some problems finding the GameConfig.txt that I can't seem to straighten out.
I can't stand the idea of compiling maps for either of the games without this tool!
Bufurd 29 Jan, 2016 @ 6:47pm
Your compiler is just so much better than valves >.>
Bufurd 29 Jan, 2016 @ 6:46pm
I really appreciate it QS, For now im just loading it into ep2 with a copy of my (50+gb) materials and models folder. the problem is duplicates.
qs 26 Jan, 2016 @ 12:49pm
I'll look into it Buford ... I don't really have sourcefilmmaker as an option right now, I'll see about adding it in. There are workarounds for supported mods but SFM is a bit different so I'll have to add a little framework for it to play nice.
Bufurd 25 Jan, 2016 @ 11:32am
Hey QS, not allowing the user to manually enter filepaths makes me cry: http://i.imgur.com/FwN1WpV.png
qs 4 Oct, 2015 @ 12:18pm
Braxton, just use the group compile feature to compile both versions at one time; follow the instructions in the help button.
Braxen 🐟 29 Sep, 2015 @ 4:00am
Isn't it possible to set it when compiling in hammer expert mode though?
Pain in the ass really, since i want to have day/night versions
qs 26 Sep, 2015 @ 6:27pm
Braxen - this isn't an option and there are a number of reasons for the name to stay the same throughout the compile. You just have to copy the .vmf to the new name before doing the compile.
Braxen 🐟 26 Sep, 2015 @ 12:49pm
Is it possible to make it compile to a different filename than the vmf?
qs 12 Sep, 2015 @ 9:48am
[Zen] Jack Ralph, I'll check again on implementing an alternate for -both but last time I worked on that it wasn't co-operating.
qs 12 Sep, 2015 @ 9:43am
If you have games installed on partitions other then the default Steam executable path, VBCT will not be able to find this content until a workaround is implemented.

One easy solution however is to drag & drop your GameConfig.txt file onto the VBCT top panel. VBCT will read the GameConfig.txt and implement those pathways regardless of what disk it's installed on. You can then click the "SAVE CFG" button and the next time you start up VBCT it will automatically reload your SDK settings.

In order for this to work, you need to run the hammer.bat file (in the bin folder) for each of the MODs on the different disk you want to work on, go to tools > options and set things up first.

When you are able to edit and compile from within Hammer, then drag and drop that GameConfig.txt file onto the VBCT top panel and it will then work on that MOD.
Mr_StuG 16 Aug, 2015 @ 8:40am
Is there any chance of a version where you can use the default -LDR and -HDR instead of both that would be great.
Mr_StuG 16 Aug, 2015 @ 8:37am
When you select HDR and LDR does it use the -both command or does it do it seprately, since i'm getting the HDR VRAD crash https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/VRAD_HDR_Crash_Fix
qs 16 Aug, 2015 @ 6:36am
It might have been the dotnet version, Win10 needs to d/l and install it. Good news iiboharz, ty for the feedback and for using VBCT!
Citra 13 Aug, 2015 @ 9:16pm
UPDATE: I don't know what changed but all of a sudden VBCT seems to be working again on W10.
Citra 9 Aug, 2015 @ 9:21am
Thanks much, feel free to add me if you need more info on my rig, operating environment etc.
qs 8 Aug, 2015 @ 1:09pm
iiboharz, I don't have a (latest) win10 install running yet, I did test VBCT with the earlier win10 beta and it worked fine. I'll see what I can do to test this asap.

Kax, I'll also look at the issue with multiple drives again, unfortunately steam doesn't provide a clean way to tell developers what disks that parts of the game are located.
Citra 8 Aug, 2015 @ 9:42am
I am having difficulties getting VBCT to run on Windows 10. The program launches, as in, the .exe starts, but the interface does not. The window just isn't there, it doesn't show up on my taskbar etc.

I've tried running it in compatibility mode with no dice. I'd really like a solution soon as VBCT is my favourite solution to map compiling.
Tibbles 25 Jun, 2015 @ 10:38pm
Any chance of there being support of multiple steam directories? I have TF2 as my only source game on my SSD (which is where steam is installed) but all of my SDK stuff is located in another directory on another drive, thus VBCT can't find it. :(

Really missing using this otherwise great piece of software.
qs 19 Feb, 2015 @ 4:14pm
robert, unfortunately I don't have that mod so I can't fix it for you at the moment.
rob moses 2 Feb, 2015 @ 10:02am
me again, insurgency support ? please please :)
ItsSnipe 31 Oct, 2014 @ 8:43pm
OK so I have steam installed on my F:/ drive and games on my G:/ drive and it wont recognize that I have any games installed, how can I point the compiler program to my G:/ drive where my games are installed or is it even possible?
qs 19 Jul, 2014 @ 3:24pm
VBCT is not open source right now; it's been a very complex and tricky development effort and I still have a lot of work ahead to get it complete.
xXShiningxX 19 Jul, 2014 @ 5:08am
One Question:

Your Program, VBCT. It's a OpenSource, mybe and please can your Source - Code to provide? Because, I am Programming too ;)
xXShiningxX 19 Jul, 2014 @ 5:04am
Thank you. your tips it really helped me.
qs 18 Jul, 2014 @ 4:16pm
Ronny, you are using a non-standard DPI for your display which is causing this problem.
Go to: Control Panel\Personalization\DPI Scaling and reset this back to Default. You'll have to restart your system to make this change happen.

I don't include the history.csv in the distribution zip (that would be silly!) ... and ".csv" format is "Comma Separated Values"; what app are you using to open your history file?
rob moses 27 Jun, 2014 @ 2:34pm
the history.csv should use semicolons and not be included in the zip as i always overwrite it with a manual update - big thanks for making fof work :)
Safalin 13 Jun, 2014 @ 9:36am
I see. You could possibly use OpenSteamworks to retrieve the paths, instead. Other than that, I'm not sure what other options there may be.
qs 13 Jun, 2014 @ 3:47am
In my config.vdf I have:
"InstallDir" "D:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Half-Life 2 Deathmatch"
even though I moved that game over to my F: drive.
Safalin 12 Jun, 2014 @ 11:21pm
Hmm.. In my config/config.vdf under the "InstallConfigStore/Software/Valve/Steam/apps" section the InstallDir looks fine - currently I'm writing a content download manager which looks in the "apps" section for the AppID, then once it finds the correct one, it looks at InstallDir and stores it in memory for re-use. The installdir appears to be up-to-date with cross-drive paths (for example, my games are installed on my D drive, but my Steam install folder is on my F Drive.)

I might be looking at the wrong part of this file.. but it looks fine to me.
qUiCkSiLvEr 12 Jun, 2014 @ 7:21pm
Apparently the config.vdf doesn't track the paths explicitly, there is a hashed link there for a moved game but it's not simple to unhash and the explicit link still points to the original path under Steam <sigh>. Thank you for the suggestion though, it looked real good.
Safalin 12 Jun, 2014 @ 2:21pm
Could you not use the Steam Install path and read the config.vdf? I've done that before using a KeyValues wrapper for .NET - you're able to get the paths from that file.
qs 8 Jun, 2014 @ 7:50pm
Robert, I've updated VBCT to work with Fistful of Frags but there appears to be some bug in the mod where content from the .vpks are not being read. I tested this stand-alone in the fof native SDK as well as in the 2013 multiplayer SDK. You'll still have to update the GameConfig.txt file (via hammer or manually) to get the mod SDK operational in either place.

Anarchy, I'm working on the problem of content on multiple drives but unfortunately Valve has made this difficult by not providing a path in the registry or environment to locate content in locations other than the main steam folder.
Safalin 6 Jun, 2014 @ 10:52am
It would be helpful if you made VBCT open-source. There's some bugs I'm encountering with it (to do with TF2 being installed in a different drive than Steam) that i'd like to fix.
rob moses 4 Jun, 2014 @ 2:55pm
Fistful of Frags isnt shown in SDK2013MP, it has custom paths to compile tools and is standalone release for Steam, please add :)
qUiCkSiLvEr 2 Feb, 2014 @ 11:47am
Right now VBCT doesn't recognize custom named tools, you'll have to save the default vbsp.exe and rename your replacement as "vbsp.exe". This file is whitelisted and will get reverted back to stock on SDK updates and if you verify the SDK cache.

Just to be clear though, custom compile modules are not supported and results may be very unpredictable.
ESToomere 2 Feb, 2014 @ 6:30am
Does it also not use custom VBSP if it's 1) renamed to vbsp or 2) in a different folder but still named vbsp?
qUiCkSiLvEr 1 Feb, 2014 @ 10:20pm
VBCT doesn't support custom compile modules (of different names) at the moment, I'll have to do something to get support for this set up.
ESToomere 1 Feb, 2014 @ 6:14am
Does Beta5 ignore the custom VBSP?
Been sitting in Full compile for 10 minutes on this line:

-------------- Start Compile BSP ----------------
VBSP Started, Please Wait!

VBSP: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer\bin\vbsp_2013.exe -game "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer\ep2" "C:\Users\Erik-Silver\Desktop\Dropbox\Steam-related\Mythos\Cubbage\cubbage_coast_03"
The Gas Station 15 Dec, 2013 @ 3:11am
Found the solution (right-clicking the [...] button). Now it works.
The Gas Station 13 Dec, 2013 @ 6:55am
I'm trying to compile my map but it keeps telling me this:

Error: Unable to Start Compile: Missing GameConfig.txt file!
Expected path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceSDKGameConfig.txt
More Information: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Source_SDK_FAQ

Unknown MOD or Engine Detected, unable to compile!!

Where should I place the GameConfig file? I've palced it both in (...)/team fortress 2/bin
and in (...)/common/SourceSDK
(The map is for TF2)
qs 29 Oct, 2013 @ 3:44am
Minor Update for those Garry's Mod fans that want to use CSS for development, I added submod selection under the CSS game select menu. Eventually I'll get it in for all the stock mods, but here is the update (executable only): http://qsextreme.com/vbct/vbct_10ubeta5.zip
qs 23 Aug, 2013 @ 6:53pm
I have a beta4 that now supports the source2013 singleplayer and multiplayer, I'm still testing it but you are welcome to grab the test version here: http://qsextreme.com/vbct/vbct_10ubeta4.zip
let me know if you have any problems!
