Naelstrof 29 Apr, 2010 @ 8:29pm
lol I was glitched somehow and permanently have old ui, fun stuff.

I absolutely hated the beta, and this is no different. Damnit Valve, I don't like change.
OldForester 29 Apr, 2010 @ 5:04am
"You can sign out of the beta" my ... tailbone. Now they've forced the new web2.0rhea spamvertisement spoonfeeding engine upon us.

I think it's time to file criminal charges against Valve for unlawful computer tampering. I never allowed them to install Apple libraries (webkit!) on my computer, and as such this constitutes the same problem as other internet worms that installs malware without user consent.

So much for that. Seriously Valve . . . what the hell? The sneaky little restart patch notes didn't even say a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing about the UI! That's low. That's unprofessional.

You can opt out of the Beta, but you will likely need to uninstall Steam if you can't boot it up. Sadly, there is no official statement from Valve as to whether such a recourse will be made available after the version currently in Beta goes Live.

ok when i start up steam it asks me to login i login and then nothing happens so i go into task manager and it says not responding is there a way i can switch back to the old steam

Their Beta was to test for bugs. Is there any sort of official word on support for the original UI yet? Well, until they choose to support the old UI (or actually offer an improvement), we will continue to give them feedback.

You all are stupid.... THATS WHY IT WAS BETA UI.

Would anyone be able to direct Gaben to this group, by chance? Or any of the developers responsible for this. I don't mean any offense to them, but it really is a travesty. Function should come before form. If they really want to gaudy things up, I would recommend they just devote some time to implementing a much more user-friendly skinning system.

Well, steam is a company most concerned with their bottom line. The _ONLY_ way to make such companies understand "this is a bad move" is to make an indication on their BOTTOM LINE that "this wasn't very smart".

And the compare to facebook in the comment below here is quite good. Steam has removed the non-cluttered ui, in favor of something that looks like yet another "social network site" with all the added functionality of glossy plastic. In fact, it looks like something a five-year old child of a cupertino worker might come up with. I've chosen Steam over other options because of convenience. If their software is inconvenient, that means I'll take my money elsewhere. Right now I'm just waiting. If no "we will keep the classic UI around" statement is made, I'll purchase the games I've already set aside money for from competitors, simple as that. I downright REFUSE to have AppleWebkit, their excuse for a media-player mdns-responder or any other of their products installed. Period.

We may not have to simply boycott Steam, you know. I would expect that out of most other game companies, but Valve has a remarkable talent for listening to the player base. My bet is, if we simply TELL them that their new UI sucks enough, they'll get the point and change it.
Asuko the Shadow-eater 26 Feb, 2010 @ 8:58am
Personally, I wonder why this is a matter serious enough to stop using steam for. Add some fresh sticks of memory if you are so inclined. This is something akin to Facebook UI updates in terms of silliness. That's just my opinion however.
OldForester 26 Feb, 2010 @ 3:34am
If the "new and better" UI is forced on me, it will have the effect of me taking my purchases elsewhere. It's called "voting with my wallet". Until we have an official response on file saying that the new web2.0rhea interface will be optional, no new purchases will be made, and I'll consider getting my current non-valve games from other sources (no, I will not re-purchase valve games to fund this new interface).

If they won't give us a choice, then I'm really afraid my time with Steam is at an end. Which is a shame, since I enjoy games like TF2, and I don't know of any way to run them outside of Steam. Can anyone offer a suggestion?
