Dedicated core drop off

I just wanted to post about the status of this change. Sadly after fighting with our host provider at Citadel and getting some of the worst customer service and tech support ever, i have come to the tough decision that this move will not happen.

I have however opened a second server with a lower player slot population that is not public. I will be keeping both open. The first one for general public use and the second one for a more serious RP environment. There is a new post here regarding entry requests to the non public server.

Managing both servers will be a challenge i've spent the better part of a week setting up the second and will be switching between both to maintain as needed.

These duties will likely stretch me very thin so I am considering adding an additional admin to server 1. The duties of this individual would be as follows.

1) Maintain the server land management via cleanup of abandoned builds.

2) Enforce the server rules in regards to names, spawn blocks, and griefing.

3) stay active on the group/server to keep me informed of issues that need to be resolved.

Anyone interested in this position please feel free to contact me via steam through a friend request/message.

Dedicated server core update

Evening exiles! Ias most of you know i have been talking with the technicians at Citadel our server host in regards to opting in to a dedicated server core. I got to the bottom of my concerns and questions regarding this today. Most of the servers available are running on a shared core. This limits the server in terms of performance and memory they have available. As the populace grows or mods are added performance can greatly decrease. By moving the server into a dedicated core that will never be an issue. No sharing period, we will have a dedicated server for Tree of Woe alone. WOW. What this means for us? Pretty much the sky is the limit. Mods in abundance as selected and should the server populace top out to 40 all at once, no risk of performance loss or random resets/crashes.

This being said changing over to this service is not without risk. They assure me that no server wipe will occur. Im a bit hesitant though in regards to that answer. As it turns out i have a large credit sum in my account with them, large enough in fact to run the server for close to a year even with the increased cost of adding the core. Their billing department for reasons unknown to me have told me in order to apply this credit i will first have to cancel my subscription and then reactivate it using the credit then regular billing when its been consumed.

All of that is great except for the part concerning cancelling then re subscribing. Im not convinced this wont cause a wipe so until i get a confirmation im not moving forward. If they can reassure me that theres no concern of a wipe then i will be moving forward, that being said i would ask for understanding in case something goes south and a wipe does in fact occur.

On the day of service change, possibly tonight or tomorrow night the server will be down for a brief time. This mostly due to setup on their end. I will be re adding all the things and a few other choice mods that some have been requesting, this might take a short amount of time and service will go back online as rapidly as possible. Of course i will post notifications on the whens whats and whys well ahead of time.

As always thak you for your patience, cooperation and continued support.

Council members

Evening my fellow exiles. Ive given some thought to a few ongoing issues that have come to light. Namely server elders and regulars. There are a few people on server that have been here since its inception. I know all of them and we stay in touch on a day to day basis. Quite a bit of current server direction has been implemented by their input. This means they dont just play, theyre active in the day to day. Recently ive been hearing a little bickering here and there...even if im not on the server i can see what chat is on it via remote, which i do check from time to time through the day.

This has led me to consider a few things. Namely when im not on or Jin isnt on, who is on to at least guide the newcomers to the group for the server rules etc. Also if an issue arises on server needs or concerns rule breaking who should address it? I keep my discord on 24/7 to monitor server health so i can always be gotten ahold of to make a decision on something if it pops up.

This brings me to the subject of this announcement. A council of regular players that are active on the group as well as in discord. My judgment tells me this should be clan leaders, though i have to defer to older clan leaders not newly created clans.

I will be posting a list of these people. Please give them consideration if they bring something to your attention such as wild names spawn blocks etc. These wont be things they are just grabbing out of their hat. Chances are ive already been talked to about what you are being currently taked to in the server by that individual.

Outside of the clan heirarchy Braxun has been on server since its opening and moderates the discord channel for us so please keep that in mind. When the server breaks its usually braxun that alerts me if Jin hasnt gotten there first. So i would appreciate it if they bring something to your attention please give them consideration at least.

I would urge all clan leaders to give me their wish to be part of this council or not. I will be holding a clan leader meeting within the next day or to to lay down what all of this means and iron out any grey areas.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Server absence

Afternoon exiles, I just wanted to bounce in for a second and offer my apologies for not showing face last night. All of you who know me know that I am very diligent about staying on top of the day to day needs, concerns and happiness of the server. However as it often does reality can take the lead on such things. I am a business man, father of 6 husband of a wonderful wife and care for an aging mother in her mid 70's, couple all that with dealing with a torn miniscus in my right knee, two bad disks in my lower back and a lifetime of wear and tear from working steel my entire life and you get a worn out old bastard now and again.

There are days when I look around and wonder wow did I get to do anything for me at all? It can be rare. I keep in touch with multiple people on the server through discord which is always on, in the event of a dilemma I can do a reset or address whatever comes up fairly quickly.

However there will be times when I either cannot be available or to be honest just don't have the grit TO be available. During those times I have made provisions for the server. Jinako selflessly agreed to act as moderator in my absence. I trust that all of you will give the same courtesy to me as you do to him.

Anyway to sum up, thank you for being an active part in this, thank all of you who give their time to assist in even the smallest manner. As always it is most appreciated. I hope to see all in game tonight.

Dedicated server core addition

Morning again all. Last night i looked into the dedicated server option via our host at Citadel. Monday if all goes well we may be getting this option added to the server. What does this mean to all of you? Not much, it will increase my server cost by about double which is fine. What it will do for the server...volumes. Most regular hosted servers share a server with multiple clients. From what im told the dedicated core will pretty much give us raw power, more ram better server performance in a manner of speaking.....our own core. Hot damn who doesnt like the sound of that right? I wont have the particulars of what options this will give us, possibly even more modding slots(if they ever get the damn bugs out of them) and it will give us the opportunity to play at full population load without performance degradation issues.

I will keep you all posted as it progresses.

Server restarts

Morning exiles, firstly i would like to thank you all for all your patience through these last few days. Something somewhere has gone bonkers. I'm not certain if it's the mods, the patch, the host site. All of this hopefully will glean some answers on monday.

For server health and till such time as the next patch clears up this memory leak i have set the server to do an auto reboot each morning at 5am. Please keep that in mind and plan accordingly. For all of the Discord regulars please drop me a message if the game doinks out after these scheduled reboots.

As always your faithfull demi god and servant

Greywolf
