It won't let me leave, it tells me "press escape to continue" only to put me back in, OMG HELP!

I didn't understand what the game was from its store page, and after having played the demo I still have absolutely no idea. The character is a creepy aquatic teletubby, there is no tutorial, the directions are useless, and it doesn't let you quit the demo!

At least I unlocked a chest.
