Priorities

In order to be good, we need more scrims. Scrims are important, and not going to them is getting on my nerves. I don't give a fuck about dinner, or how your friends asked you out after we arranged a scrim.

5pm on saturdays is scrim time. Don't book things over this. If you do, give me a weeks notice.

Dowel not being able to make it today caused me to spend hours looking for a merc. I could have used this time to play the game and get ready for the scrim, or to watch a map tutorial, or wank.

It is by no means just Dowel. Multiple people have been real assholes to me about timings, sometimes going as far as to directly undermine me in the comms. I won't name them because they will bitch about it, but this kind of conduct is really shitty.

Thanks for reading.

And I still don't care about dinner.

Today's game

Lots was said, I am just going to right a few ideas down. Feel free to add!

1. Positioning, we need to be where we need to be when we need to be.
2. Everyone needs to check out tf2lobby a few times a week.
3. I need to make smarter picks and protect the med more (same old story).
4. Doing what you are told immediately- there were delays which made us lose.
5. SPYCHECK.

Ben's Hiatus

Ben has gone on hiatus, so we will be playing with a new heavy for a little while.

This saturday, Floppy (formerly of the ds3 team) will be playing with us, and as for the future, I am going to find us a new temporary heavy. Let me know if you have someone suitable.

TF2 Lobby

Go play on TF2 Lobby.

And before I get all the bullshit, here is an FAQ section.

Q: I don't like lobby, can I sit out?
A: No, don't be so fucking selfish. Get good at the game. You will only get good with practice.

Q: People on lobby are mean, can I sit out?
A: No. Me, Wub n00by and a whole bunch of other people put up with the shit you get on lobbies, you need to learn to.

Q: I don't have time for lobbies, can I sit out?
A: Make time. If you can't, then I don't see how you can be in a team. same goes for scrims.

Q: I already lobby, why are you telling me?
A: I am not talking to those of you who already lobby, idiot.

Q: I wanna play Dota all day and you can't tell me what to do. Fuck you?
A: Guess what, I can. Anybody who wants to play in comp needs to commit to it, and if you don't like the fact that I am telling you what to do, then go leave the team and make your own bullshit team and call it the Oppressed Spatial Explorers and be stupid.
(NOTE: I am not condemning you for playing Dota, but it would be nice to see people actually play tf2 if they want to be in this team)

Q: My lobby is broken, is it ok for me to not go on it?
A: No, go fix it. If you can't, then you will only hurt the team with your lack of practice. And if you're gonna hurt the team, then I don't want to play with you.

Q: I'm MLG by default, can I not take part in practice?
A: Leave the team.

Seriously, it is annoying me how little time some people are putting into tf2. And its not just me. People have come to me, annoyed about how some people barely play tf2 yet think they can just turn up at matches and do good. Fucking grow up.

More scrims?

Let's face it, we dont scrim enough. Teams that we used to beat have gone on to do more scrims and are now wiping us. I propose scrims on sundays at 6pm, with mumble at 5.

Please can EVERYONE, and I mean EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PERSON ON THIS TEAM, leave a comment or tell me directly if this is ok with your own personal timetable.

This will leave us with two scrims a week, one on saturday and one on sunday.

I am disappoint

Today is our second week without a scrim in a row.

This is obviously not good, but there was little I could do about it.

Without regular group practice of some kind, I fear we will lose much of what we have gained in scrims. Therefore, I set up an event today where instead of a scrim, we could have a group MGE session.

Many people did not show up, and some that did left because of a frustration with MGE and not feeling that it was useful.

Not only does this undermine me, but repetition of events like these could result in us becoming worse as a team.

Practice makes perfect, and perfect is what we need to try to be.

Too many people let me down today for me to give out individual addresses, so I will address the team as a whole.

All I want from you guys is commitment. We all agreed that saturdays at 5 were practice time, yet many of us were offline. As I said, there is little I can do to anyone as individuals today, and this won't change if things like this happen again in the future.

I put a lot of time into this team, organising events and preparing us for games. The only thing I want in return is commitment. If you can't give me that, then you are going to become a worse player, let the team down and waste my time.

One final thing: No one in this team is indisposable.

Scrim cancellation.

In a surprise turn of events, the captain of the other team has decided to do something else during tomorrow's scrim time.

It's his fault entirely, and I don't feel particularly happy about it, but wtf can I do? Nothing.

However, everyone on our team, plus some subs, are ready for tomorrow. I think we should try top do something else as a team.

Please leave a comkment with any ideas you might have, If you don't have any then leave a comment anyway to let me know that you read this. Don't come whinging to me tomorrow if the cancellation comes to you as a surprise.

Demo Reviews

Rewatch your demos!

It will showcase your mistakes, hopefully preventing them from happening again, as well as your killstreaks (which I am sure you would love to watch).

Commitment

Yesterday's game was amazing, but unfortunately two of our players were unable to play it in it's full duration.

I fully understand the situations of both of these individuals, and I really do sympathise with them.

In the case of one person, I quickly found a replacement, and in the case of the other, I did not. I have a duty that I only realised yesterday, and that is to always have subs available.

However, playing with subs is not ideal, and it causes hassle when people cannot make it.

As I said, I understand your situations, and for the time being I would like to move on from yesterday.

However, if individuals do not take personal responsibility for not showing up to games/ leaving games, then who will?

Starting from today, if someone cannot make it to or leaves a game that they told me they could make, I will hold them personally responsible. I hate to do it, but everyone in the team has put so much work in and I will not allow individuals to harm this. If people are unreasonably late, or can't make it, or leave a game that they committed to, for whatever reason, kicking them/ benching them will become a serious consideration.

I am not telling you this as a friend, I am telling you this as group leader. I hate pulling rank, and I can imagine that some of you must hate me right now, but it's the only thing I can do to ensure a consistent quality of play and enjoyment from the people of our team as a whole.

UGC Stuff

2 people have told me that they do not like the name "Amatory Eight". 2 people are for it. My irritation with the abysmal contribution of some of you aside, I am going to assume direct control and break the tie, and thus our name will be "Amatory Eight". If you spokeout against this, your contributions were noted, but votes are votes, and a tiebreaker was needed. I will sign us up to UGC with this name.

Also, many of you told me in the previous scrim that you did not like scrimming at 8pm. Unfortunately, depending on the location of our team, the default time for UGC matches is either 7pm or 8pm. If we can't play at these times for whatever reason, then we can't play in UGC.

By default matches take place on monday. For the duration of the season, we will all need to be free on mondays from 7pm to whenever a match will finish, I would expect 9:30 at the ABSOLUTE latest, I doubt it will go on for longer than this but preparation is important. As with our scrims, I would want us in the comms by one hour before the start of the game.

PLEASE, FOR FUCK'S SAKE COMMENT ON THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

There are people within this group who have NEVER commented on announcements. I have told all of you many times about how important this is. If you don't comment, your opinions will be left out and, if I am arranging a scrim or something, I will have to speak to people individually. Speaking to you like this is a waste of my personal time, and a far less reliable means of communication.

If you guys communicate effectively with me, we can do multiple scrims before the season starts. If you don't, we won't get as many scrims, and we will get destroyed. If we get to the season and have not had enough practice because of bad communication, and as such do badly, then I really don't see the point of keeping this team going.

N.B. There are maps this season that some of us, myself included, have never even played on. So, yeah. Scrims matter a lot for our success and enjoyment.
