Nintendo Switch 2 Online GameCube Controller Support
I got my GameCube controller shipped in today, and I found out it's unsupported on Steam right now. All it's known as is "Nintendo If_Hid" by Steam and Windows 11. I was wondering if you could add support for it and if I could help in any way. I know adding controllers is a case-by-case kind of thing, so let me know if you need anything specific! :)

~~SOLUTIONS~~

I found a tool that allows support for Nintendo Switch 2 controllers (including the GameCube Online one)! I wasn't sure to post it as a solution because of the slightly inconvenient setup and future stability. However, I've been using it for months and it hasn't failed me once.

reWASD is working on adding support for Nintendo Switch 2 controllers, but not all the features of the GameCube Online controller are usable yet. It will take a little more time, but the wait will be worth it because their app is incredible. If you want everything reWASD has to offer, buy the lifetime license. Don't get the subscription because the consumer market for reWASD is trying to push away the idea of subscriptions. Getting the lifetime license ensures you get to use reWASD without ever having to pay another dime.

Very much this!
I quite like the ergonomics of the controller and would love to be able to use it on steam.

@Booklordofthedings I'll let you know if I ever find a way to use it! It shouldn't be too long until it gets supported by Windows, Steam, or reWASD. :rjumendoka2:

I found a website that temporarily lets you use your Switch Online GameCube controller. It doesn't work on every browser (doesn't work on FireFox with my settings, but it worked on Edge). All you have to do is plug your controller into your PC, select the controller after clicking "Enable HID Output", and it should work for as long as you keep the controller connected AND the website is running.

AS OF RIGHT NOW; the rumble and gyro doesn't activate, you can only use the triggers as regular triggers (so no analogue input), the joystick gates aren't perfect, and you can't use Bluetooth.

More work needs to be done to get the controller fully functional, but it's good enough to at least play with. Although it's not the most practical thing in the world, you'll at least have the ergonomics of a GameCube controller. I'll try to keep you updated, but here's a thread that CAN announce any revolutions:

Here's one for the Switch 2 Pro Controller:

Yup can confirm this workaround also works on linux. You also need to give the usb device additional rights there.

Actual input with that method is pretty bad though, even with steam input. Binding of Isaac gets the axis mixed up and Celeste has no downwards axis + up diagonal has a really weird input window.

Ive also tried the 8bitdo usb adapater, but that currently doesnt work (yet ?)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. I believe you can flip the axis in the controller options, though. Again, still not ideal because the inputs still aren't that good yet. I've been checking every day for some kind of update. It's been a while, so I'm hoping someone gets a breakthrough soon.
Has the support for Gamecube NSO controller gotten any better in the last 6 months? I was considering ordering one but if it doesn't work well I will continue to use my old wired gamecube controllers

I've been using a Nintendo Switch 2 GUI tool made by Nohzockt and I believe it's gotten to the point where it's good enough to recommend. It takes some setting up and can be a bit confusing, but it's the best I've seen so far. reWASD has also added support for Switch 2 controllers, but certain features are missing. Nohzockt's tool seems to allow all the features to work. I wasn't sure to post it as THE solution because I was unsure about the stability. However, I've been using it for months and it hasn't once broke. I'm glad there are still people interested in using the controller on PC. It's probably the best you can buy right now as it has everything the Gamecube games need and is molded by Nintendo.
