Wipe is tomorrow 7PM GMT [Map]

Time for another Map Wipe. We have setup a new server on Linux, which cuts the needs for our donations thus creating the possibility for us to operate indefinitely after the DDoS attacks where we lost a lot of players.

I hope for the pop to climb again, and hopefully those who have stuck around continue to do so. It might take a few wipe cycles, but invite your friends and we can restore it to its former glory.

See you tomorrow at 7 GMT. :-)

Join up, invite your friends - smaller map.

As you all know, the pop is basically dead. I followed the advice of community players last night and so yesterday was a map and a BP wipe.

If we are to bounce back from these DDoS attacks - we can, super easily but I need all of your help. If you're reading this, invite your friends, get on the server and fill it as much as we possibly can. It's a friday evening, and people will naturally join a freshly wiped server.

I can't do that alone however, and need everyone's support. If we can't manage to fill up the slots a bit, I am afraid we will only decline in players.

Thanks.

Server has been wiped, testing new DDoS filters.

Server has just been wiped. There are also some new DDoS filters that are being tested, and tweaked - however we won't know how well, or how much tweaking will be required until we are attacked again.

Wipe will be on Thursday, along with a test of the new anti-ddos filters.

Hi,

Seeing as the DDoS attacks have made the server effectively dead (and the DDoS attacks have stopped, due to the server being so dead) - we will commence a MAP wipe on Thursday, at 7PM GMT as usual.

We have a new anti-ddos filter in place to hopefully mitigate the bursts. We can't know how well this works until we wipe however. See you on Thursday!

DDoS Attacks, and you.

NOTE: MOST LIKELY source of the attack, is competing servers in Rust. (Note DDoS occurs mostly when players have reached 90+). This is so they can effectively take our population.

As you may have noticed very obviously, we were disrupted this early morning, and throughout the evening, see this chart[gyazo.com]. The spikes to 125mbit at 0300AM and this evening are where the attacks are incoming.

Even though the attack shows as incoming at only around 100mbit, in reality the data burst could be 500-5000mbit for all we know. We are running Wireshark to further analyze the next attack. The general graph does not sample the data closely enough to get a proper understanding of the scale.

Game servers run on UDP ports, therefor ACL rule sets and mitigation techniques are either impossible, or extremely expensive. We are looking at some options to see if we can't either mitigate the attack, or at least minimize the damage caused by it during peak times.

It is of course not something we want happening, and we get just as frustrated if not more than you, when an attack happens. Screaming 'ddos lulz omg pls fix' will not help. Screaming 'server bad' just shows you that you're an idiot. If you've read this far, you are probably not an idiot, so apologies for wasting your time.

We will keep analyzing the data of the next attack, and come to a conclusion.

A) We might be able to mitigate, and stop the attack
B) We will have to wait until the attacker runs out of A) Money B) Botnet C) Gets a life

In case of scenario B, we hope that our loyal players will stick around, because we know we will. DDoS will NOT stop us from operating.

Server updated

Hi everyone,

Apologies for the small downtime. The server update is now live and the server is back up. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Rust client so that you're able to connect.

Happy gaming!

A new wipe, and hopefully less DDoS.

No, we aren't dead. And with your help, we will regain our pop with our unique selling point of being pure vanilla, with the highest and smoothest FPS available in the ever changing Rust.

Last few weeks have been plagued by false servers stealing our name, DDoS attacks which are extremely expensive to mitigate, and lots of cry babies who think they're entitled to some kind of explanation.

The truth is, there is little we can do once someone decides to start a large scale DDoS. I know there are many of you in the community who have some brains, and I appreciate your patience. People who return to play, and those who expect uninterfared gameplay will find what they're looking for.

With Linux support being a reality for Rust, soon we will be moving over to some new hardware which might actually run Rust even better than our already maxxed out FPS.

I will keep you up to date, but as always - stay active and keep killing nakeds.

New cycle has begun!

Hello everyone!

Just a quick announcement, that the new wipe cycle has begun. This has been part of the Facepunch force wipe, so both blueprints and map have been wiped.

The next wipe date will be confirmed in the next couple of days depending on player population. If population remains consistent throughout the cycle, the cycle shall last longer than the previous 7 days. If the population dies down a lot, we will consider wiping as per our previous schedule.

If you have any questions, please post a comment response to this announcement below.

Thanks all.

Server intermittency

Hi everyone,

EDIT: The server is now online.

Some of you may be aware that recently we suffered DDoS attacks on the server, causing the server to go down and players to lose connection on multiple occasions.

This is something we hoped we had dealt with, but clearly we haven't. We strive to have a great server for you all to play on, and force wiping today in order to help our players in returning due to popular demand was a decision we wanted to make as it was a decision our players wanted.

At this moment, unfortunately the server doesn't look like it will be coming back online and stable anytime soon due to the constant DDoS that is currently pressuring the server. This is not a small attack, the server already has a medium level DDoS protection which is currently being overpowered and is not something we can fix until the owner has managed to contact the host.

As the owner is mostly out of reach at the moment, I can only inform you all of the situation.

Apologies to everyone, this is not the impression we want to give, but this is something we cannot control.
