I think Respite was one of the main reasons I stuck with MMOs for as long as I did. Over the years I found a number of groups that aspects of that family feeling, but lacked something in other aspects. Haven't played much multiplayer in the last few years, but have gotten a bit done on playing through more of the overabundance of games Steam sales seem to cause for a lot of people.

Time certainly flies when you're keeping busy. Gone through a few changes myself: leaving the military, getting a degree, and a pretty interesting new job.

Heya Scrof, that's a nice reminisce. :) My memory of that time is fond but decidedly fuzzy, lol.

Before and after WoW I've been much more of a singleplayer kind of gamer. But my 4ish years playing and having y'all around in the crew was transformational for me in a lot of ways. I can unironically say that trying to make Respite work well, both as a family and as a producer of successful outcomes, heavily influenced my career. Trying to get a bunch of people working towards a shared goal when you have limited ways to incentivize them is a description of both Respite and software project/product management.

I do think of Hockner still. We didn't see eye to eye on much outside of WoW but he was a stalwart friend in the game. As were you and so many others. Hope he's doing well. Hope you're all doing well.

These days I play around in real estate, elden ring, playing the ol 'guitar, and sobriety (2 yrs!).

If anyone still looks here occasionally - we're really not far off reaching 20 years since Respite was founded. I still really clearly remember my first ZG run with the Guild on Scrof. Spamming sheep like my life depended on it because I was level, I think, 56 and couldn't damage anything. Pretty sure that was 2004. Other memories are doing Razorfen Downs, Eastern Plague Lands, lots of Stratholme runs, the first rag and the first attempts at BWL just before BC dropped (and ruined it all imo!) I still think our dkp/roll system was the best loot system I've seen too. Long time, 2 kids, half a career, 3 uni degrees, lots of travel and even a few other prime wow times (Wrath and Legion/BFA) between those days and now. Anyone still look here?

Kinda sad to see that kind of comparison, but I suppose even WoW will succumb to the life cycle of games.

if there is anyone out there that still plays wow (lol i know) Borus has started respite back up on aerie peak for the expansion. I was trying to avoid it but that silly brother of mine bought the expansion for me and pays for my monthly dues. so yeah i took noro over to the new server.
