i revailedated the game and that fixed it for me with out having to download any fix

The above mentioned hotfix is already available. Unfortunately it doesn't include the fix for the 'steam-problem' but we are working on it. Unfortunately I can't say how long it will take until we can publish the fix for the 'steam-problem' but we try to solve the problem as soon as possible. Just dowmloaded the smaller retail PR3.exe and the game runs without problems, even though it's certainly NOT MY JOB to do that - in the future I will keep my fingers off pre-orders and new releases ...

711green, can you upload your PortRoyale3.exe? I currently use a third party .exe version 1.1.0.24450, the game starts, but when working with bugs in the cities.

I re-download four. And I try to chang German - Hamburg.

It's a window jump to say the work is error.

In the Kalypso Forum (they have at least a PR 3 Forum) I found out that there is a major problem with the steam PR3.exe - as soon as people use the retail PR3.exe (from friends) the game runs - concerned are obviously many steam users - all those without retail friends like me will have to wait for an update ...

so what to do now that i have millions and are warring with holland, hmm....

so question.....how in the world do i take a pirate hideout. there is no defense phase its just the landing party and i use 3 war gallions so 650 troops with full muskets and cutlasses. all my sailors die and i only dent their army. Any suggestions?

Even though I like Hamburg more than Frankfurt - it's not the solution "PortRoyale.exe Error / Fehler in der Anwendung" ... I give up ... it maybe a beautiful game and fun to play ... nothing compared to the fun trying to make it run ... for 24 hrs - thx anyway :)

Just wanted to go through all possibilities and in the game properties you can choose btw german or english language - no matter how your general steam language / server settings are - doing so the game itself starts the download and you can't do anything until it's finished - then I will try Hamburg instead of Frankfurt ;)

.. no change and guess what happens switching back to english ... exactly ... 2,7 GB ... after this I will concentrate on directX - thanks for the hints :)

Tried switching to an english server as my steam and all my games are set to english language .. no change - switching the game to german language effects a 2,7 GB download .... in progress ...

I was having trouble launching the game - The first time I hit play, it ran a DirectX update and then nothing happened. Hit play and nothing would launch. I tried to launch the game .exe manually and got an error about a DirectX .dll file missing. I went to Microsoft website and ran the DirectX updater and restarted my computer. When I tried to launch the game again, it automatically tried to update DirectX again - I hit cancel. Then the game launched. I think there is a problem with the built-in DirectX updater. Hope that helps.

Thx 711green! Try to change the download region, or try to verify the game cache, in case this won't help then you will have to wait untill the first bug fix patch releases. Hope it will help and work. Have Fun.

My cloud / dl region is already set to germany ... win xp ... nothing :(

After I had to wait more than 2 hrs before I could download it (that's probably the pre-order bonus ... ) the game is even 18 hrs after release STILL NOT RUNNING!!! From a developpers / publishers view it seems to be a "good move" NOT to open a forum before its release (so they don't have to read angry posts of disillusioned users) and to release it on a friday - means before tuesday there won't be any fix ... BRAVO Gaming Minds and Kalypso ... it was a pleasure to spend money for this game so far ...
