Mother of All Battles

And we lost. We showed improvment, though. We managed to like, save our asses by recapping a point and holding it for a short time. And get the KOTH point for....like 12 seconds. But all this against the best team in the tournament, so GG...I guess.

That being said, as far as I'm aware, its all ogre now. That was our last match. No playoffs for us, even with Thighlander forfeiting. The Plat Effect was forced to forfeit match 2 because they had unregistered player but, Molester Man was also unregistered during the match with the Plat, but so...we both lost. And we had a fair and square match with GWMI who kicked our asses.

Some things I learned:

a. how not to be the world's worst pyro
b. we should have devised a better strategy. everybody go together != sufficent teamwork. we should have designated people who were going to cap, people who were going to stop the others from capping, made sure the medic and engy were sufficently used, communicated properly, etc.
c. we don't suck, but these guys all are incredibly good and are competitive players, so we were kind of screwed from the get-go
d. we all lost faith in the team, and our core players who were good were often not in the match. Nearly every match/scrim had either not 9 people or people not actually on the team. These people did not nearly as much experience/weren't as good/didn't have the same level of teamwork for obvious reasons. We should have been more organized and commited so we actually all showed up to every match.
e. unprofessionalness was death...but then again we all like to have fun
f. if everything was put together, we are actually a force to be reckoned with.
g. we failed miserably, but I think I can speak for everyone when I say we had fun. so...oh well.

GG NO RE
A Change in our Plans!

The team GuysWeMadeIt would like to change the date of our match to later this week. The current match date is August 1st. If we do it this week, we should all practice a lot more! Comment if you're available to play this week, or tell us when you are available so we can come up with another date.

You may have also noticed the strange announcement headline. From now on, I expect all announcement headlines to sound like the names of the Pokemon Animated Series episodes. Don't forget the horrible puns!
Examples can be found here: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_anime_episodes

Scrim vs The Plat Effect Results

Hey everyone!

WE WON OUR FIRST SCRIM!
Well, sort of. We we're lacking players so 2 of the other team went onto our team so it was 7v7. But still. We won!

We faced the team we'll be fighting against in our second match, and they're pretty good, but I think we might have an actual chance. We're all slowly but surely getting better.

We need to focus on practice, organization, and teamwork.

I know waiting is no fun, but make sure everyone on the team knows the event is happening. Track them down if you have to. Our core team needs more practice as a team.

That being said, indivudal practice will help. Use tr_walkway and tr_aim! They're perfect for training.

Please, especially for a match, make sure time is allocated in advance. We don't want last minute cancellations. We need to be dedicated!

Lastly, have some faith. The leader of the opposite team gave us a 'not bad' review. Take that as you will, but regardless, we're not a hopeless team. We don't completley suck (anymore)

First match: Complete

Well! Our first match complete!
And..........we lost! In fact, we got #rekt!

But. For the first time ever, we got our shit together. We actually had a full team, had skype going (despite constant fuck ups on skype's end) and communicated.

For us, a bunch of n00bs, we actually played well. Even our most pessimisstic compatriots (*cough* Eagle *cough*) agreed that this was our best effort yet. In fact, we showed that we are capable of improvement and maybe one day victory.

And say we're sore losers, but are competitiors are good. Like, really good. Competitive level good. And they have 6v6 badges. So...they're liars when they say this is their first competitive match. There are blurred lines about the rules so it looks like they're allowed to be in the tournament, but they have a shit ton of experience both as a team and in a competitive tournament so our failure is not too surprising.

Still, at this rate, we might be able to one day reach their level. With effort, practice, teamwork, and good spirit, we could actually claim victory for ourselves.

Everyone,

Don't give up.

GG

Congrats to:
Operative, 2nd Foundation, Eagle, Deetz, Tux, Duppa, Molestor, Specified, Ghost, (Emu...?) and myself, Indie, on proving we are capable of greater things.

P.S. I am a dumb person.

I'm sorry

Consider this an apology.

I just got really angry at ethan for randomly posting and swearing, and I overreacted and completely and needlessly kicked him undeservidely. I just got mad becuase Ive worked on this group/team for countless hours, an d it is all coming apart at the last minute, on the eve of our first game. I've also kinda abused admin powers, and am asking Indie Game Judge to demote me, if steam so allows it. I just feel like we should be taking this more seriosly, as this is the most seriously i am ever going to play TF2, lets face it, im never going to be good enough for competetive. I just want this to feel like a team that wants to win, not just fuck around.

Okay, ive said it, im sorry.
I dont want this to end in disaster

Edit by OperativeM(eh): But I do mwuahahahahahhahahhaha
Is Joke.
Practice

You all have experienced at least one scrim with an opposing team, and the thing we need the most of to improve is practice and co-ordination. It's not enough to practice by yourself on tr_walkway or tr_aim (although both of these maps help). We need to practice as a group; we've had 2 scrims now, and only one was successful.
We don't need to be that serious, but we still need to play the game. Stop changing your name, switching teams, and bullshit like that. You can have fun as long as you don't mess shit up for others. All of you are committed to this group, don't ignore events because you don't feel like doing them. We have a match in two more days, if we keep this up, we won't have enough players to even start a match.
If you have a software issue, or can't join, tell us about that before the event. If you can't use skype, we can set up something else. Get a microphone. If you can't run TF2, tell us about that before the match!
Finally, we also need to practice as a group. We've lost the previous scrims because of our complete lack of co-ordination, not because of a lack of skill (but a lack of practice as well). Be on the skype/teamspeak call at least 5 minutes before the match starts. Practice on the maps we're supposed to play on, not trade_minecraftplaza_v2 to trade hats. Everything comes down to practice. I hope I've addressed most of our concerns.

Rant somewhat over. I'm not really bothering to format this, I don't think formatting is necessary to get the message across.
You can download skype here[www.skype.com]
Two practice maps you should get are tr_walkway[tf2.gamebanana.com] and tr_aim[tf2.gamebanana.com] (the hitboxes for the head are broken on tr_walkway, so use tr_aim instead for sniping and ambassador practice)

Highlander Strategies and Tips

This was given to me in .pdf form by Sirius, and he wanted me to send it to the rest of the team. He's gone for 2 weeks in New York, so don't expect to see much activity from him until then.

Really short author’s note
Right, so I’m REALLY FRICKING BORED on the train to New York (~12 hours, no internet), so I’m just gonna ramble on about the highlander open tournament and highlander general because I am REALLY FRICKING BORED

Introduction
The Highlander Open tournament[etf2l.org] is played in a game mode, which is called Highlander. That means ONE (1) of each class, 9 people vs 9 people, the most common way to play competitive TF2. The server we will be playing on will have mp_highlander enabled, as well as mp_tournament enabled. This means that highlander will be on, as well as ‘stopwatch’ mode. Stopwatch mode means that, if a payload map is being played, then BOTH teams get to try and push the cart, and whoever is faster wins! This means that it doesn’t matter if the map is easier/harder to push, because both teams get a chance, removing the unknowns. This is the same with Atk/Def maps, however KOTH and 5CP maps are usually fist to two wins. 5CP and attack defense maps are played less, because their rounds can take longer amounts of time, and be less interesting. Additionally, there are no random critical hits in competitive TF2, which makes the game more based upon skill, and not luck of the random number generator. The only critical hits that happen will either be from a medic’s kritzkrieg, headshot or backstab, or from a weapon, such as the manmelter or frontier justice (The Phlogistinator and Holiday Punch are banned, as well as the cleaner’s carbine, see next section). The highlander open tournament in particular is hosted by ETF2L (you can view their website here). It is a tournament for new players to the game, where no player may have more than 2 years of experience playing competitive TF2. The map rotation for the three weeks is as follows:

Week 1 – koth_viaduct + pl_upward
Week 2 – pl_badwater + cp_granary
Week 3 – cp_gullwash_final1 + koth_lakeside_final

Banned items lists
Scout:	Baby Faces Blaster, Pocket Pistol, Crit-A-Coola
Soldier:	Reserve Shooter
Pyro:	Phlogistinator, Reserve Shooter
Demoman:	No banned weapons
Heavy:	Holiday Punch
Engineer:	Pompson 6000, Short Circuit
Medic:	Vita-saw
Sniper:	Cleaner’s carbine, Darwin’s Danger Shield
Spy:	Enforcer, Red-tape recorder, Diamondback
And ALL new weapons(Taunts are allowed)
Banned Miscs: Bombinomicon, the Jingle Belt, the Bootie Time, and the High Five taunt

Roles of the general classes
Scout:
The scout has a critical role in highlander TF2. Since he pushes the cart twice as fast as other characters, he has to push the cart on offence, unless specified otherwise, i.e. if we have a heavy/medic pair on it. Then, the scout is free to try and chase down and kill the sniper or medic. On defense, the scout’s job it to try and kill snipers/spies, and distract the other classes.
Soldier:
The soldier’s job is to deal all around damage, and to rocket jump and kill the enemy sniper, as well as to help push the objective/cart when necessary. Finally, the soldier’s last job is to protect the other teammates.
Pyro:
The pyro’s job is debatably the most complex, as he has so many, and it varies depending on the situation. The first and foremost is to counter the spy with both a flamethrower and a homewrecker. This allows the pyro to knock off sappers and help keep sentry guns operating if the engineer dies. The pyro’s third duty is to airblast rockets from distant soldiers that may be out of range back, protecting either the engineer or any other class/team. Finally, the pyro’s last job is to counter ubercharges. He does this by air blasting the medic away from the person being ubercharged many times in a row, as it can move the medic out of range and stop the charge, leaving the heavy unprotected.
Demoman:
The demoman’s job basically consists of area denial. His job is to protect the engineer or cart from enemies, usually through cleverly placed sticky traps. A demoknight setup is also highly recommended to at least have, as it makes charging around to kill snipers and pulling off a ‘medic pick’ much easier. Additionally, his job is to receive ubercharges and to go in and destroy sentry nests placed in closed rooms or that are difficult to access.
Heavy:
The heavy’s job is to put out most of the damage for the team, as well as to help lead pushes forward and tank large amounts of damage, usually while being healed by a medic. He can also act as a secondary medic if the medic is dead, by using his sandvich to heal other players. Remember, a thrown sanvich counts as a medium-sized health pack, so make sure your medic stays healthy.
Engineer:
The engineer’s job varies drastically depending the state of the team. On defense, the engineer’s job is to set up a sentry nest, and provide a place for the team to fall back upon. As well, the engineer can act as a major stopping force, preventing or even stopping an enemy push. On offence, the engineer’s job is to push the cart with the scout and to set up a teleporters, to help his team reach the front. Additionally, the engineer can set up mini sentries and dispensers, to form a temporary retreat for his team.
Medic:
The medic’s job it coordinate the team, as well as to keep everyone fully healed. Some of the medic’s other duties are to help push the cart, and help lead forward pushes with the heavy, demo, or pyro. Finally, the medic has to either deploy ubers or kritzcharges to push forward and either destroy sentries or take out large enemy groups.
Sniper:
The sniper’s job is to kill high-value targets, such as a heavy/medic, and counter the other sniper. As well, the sniper can help spycheck with jarate and support his team. Finally, the sniper’s job is to help take out distant sentries if not guarded by an engineer, allowing his team to push without wasting an ubercharge
Spy:
The spy’s job is to take out high value targets such as the heavy, and to help destroy sentry guns with the sapper. Finally, the spy’s last job is to distract the other team.

General strategy
THE OBJECTIVE IS PRIORITY. NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR KILLS/DEATHS! Way, way too many people leave the cart for personal glory and kills, especially if they see an easy kill. I don’t mind if you leave the cart to finish off a dangerous enemy, such as a medic with full ubercharge, or a spy, but return and help the team push the cart immediately afterward. Dangerous targets also get priority, such as medic/heavys, good snipers, or good spies. Leave the scout, engi, etc. to the end.

[PACETF2] Our team
Our games will vary in length, map, and time played depending on week played, and who we play. If we play another North American team, then we are free to negotiate whatever time we want. If we are playing a European team, we have to play at their times, because the tournament is organized in Europe. With the time change, the our games would likely be at ~1pm – 3pm Eastern Summer Time (This changes if you live in a different time zone).

Class List
Class: Main player/Backup
Scout: OperativeM(eh)
Soldier: Alicron
Pyro: Indie Game Judge/Jack Bauer
Demoman: Jack Bauer/OperativeM(eh)
Heavy: Eagle_Peak/Deetz
Engineer: Potato Ghost
Medic: Sirius Cybernetics
Sniper: Specialized/TheInsaneEmu [1 Clip – 1 Kill]
Spy: Ghostexx –rev- bread/Eyes_n_guard
