IW is aware of the issue and is looking into a solution. I'd say it is likely we'll see a mandatory server update to quickly reinstate a default tag.

This update has yet to be given a release date, but the patchnotes as they stand today have been released.

Nuclear Dawn Update 6.1 (March, 2012):

General:
- Clantag support (just like in CS:S players will be able to set a Steamgroup as their clan, which will in-game set them as their clantag) - with achievements,
- Squad system update: Desired squad (last squad manually picked) will be remembered for the duration that the client is open. When a client finds itself joining or switching teams, it will attempt to join the same squad that it last picked (assuming that squad is not full). Also we will try to Maintain squad choice when changing team or map, when possible.
- Join/Leave Squad added.
- Teleport between spawns: Players will be able to use the 'e' key to change between spawnpoints (showing the minimap when pressing 'e').
- Fixed all broken and buggy achievements,
- Implement on/off function for structures, to allow temporary power savings.
- Enemy spotted Radio command: Show enemy on minimap.
- Support for gamepad/controller in FPS mode.
- Round-end Teamswap server option.
- Added Options > Mouse Gamepad options
- Fixed/improved a wide range of prop collisions
- Disabled a few normal maps on props for better performance
- Updated Options > Other menu with options for:
Select Steamgroup for Clantag (Join clan)
Enable/disable Custom content from servers
Enable/disable game hints
Sync/Not Sync with steam cloud
Enable/Disable HTML MOTDs

Oilfield from beta to final:
- Renamed oilfield_beta to oilfield
- Added new overview map and loading screen
- Added 4 extra tertiary points
- Fixed plants sticking through container near ct base
- Fixed floating fueltruck and container
- Fixed small ladder issue on one of the fueltrucks
- Fixed small displacement issues

Yeah. Lets try and organize something across multiple groups all playing at once, So people won't be able to complain about people not playing at that time.
