all addons you download go into specific places under your gmod file.
your parent folder is found under:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<your username>\garrysmod\garrysmod\
most addons will come with a readme in them. read the readme to see where it goes under this file. when in doubt put it under the addons folder.

addons can be downloaded from garrysmod.org
for my convenience and since you need practice, i will post the names of the files you need to get and you should go to garrysmod.org and find the files and download them and hopefully put them in the correct place.

MAPS
now maps you need to be careful with when you download maps, because some maps go in the addons folder, but some maps go under the maps folder. and every map is different. so for every map you download you should read the readme and make sure you put it in the right place.

addons are extra content you can add into gmod to make the game sooooo much more awesome and in depth. to start i am going to give you a list of downloads that make the game functional and fun for beginners. these are all either just very basic tools or props, or they are things that are ran on the [DOIT] servers, which will be ran every once in a while for members to play on/learn how to play on.

addons consist of maps, props, mods, tools, guns, and anything else you could ever possibly think of to change the game. i am currently working on compiling lists of necessary addons you will need in order to play the game to it's fullest, and that you will need to play on the group ran servers.

First you will want to get a SVN updater program. We recomend TortiseSVN http://tortoisesvn.net/ With this you can load WIREMOD, the best part of GMod. This is the only way to install it. This page has step by step instructions on what to do. It's very helpfull.
